New URC-9910 not recognized.

Received the USB cable today, but cannot get the PC to recognize the remote.
Have tried reversing the plug, but no help.
Should the remote work properly with the USB cable plugged in?
In one position, remote operates normally - keys work, etc.
In the other position, all the 'digits' on the LCD show up, but the light or the buttons will not operate. Is one of the positions the correct one, or does it matter.
When I open ir.exe and click on the Interface menu, USB is grayed out. When I click on 'Check interface...', I get an error message that there is no response from the interface.
Suggestions? I am using URC-991B0B, with fresh batteries.

Sounds like the USB drivers haven't been installed. See http://www.diygadget.com/store/index.ph ... c&docId=11
