JP1 Beginner need help
Sorry for this guys but I need help:
I have a URC-8910, JP1 cable usb type and here are the devices I'm trying to modify to work better with my remote.
TV: Samsung: SPN-4235
Code 0812
VCR: Sanyo VHR-9440
code 0104
DVD: Panasonic DVD-RP56
code 0490
DVD/VCR: Panasonic DMR-ES35V
code 0490
Receiver: Kenwood VR-510
code 1313
All these device works ok but I need to modify some features.
I have IR.exe ver 6.20 and I uploaded the remote fine
I got the Keymap-Master v8.23
I have read all the helps and all I want to do is open Keymap-master and "I guess" upload say the DVD/VCR and change some stuff and rename
0490 to like 1490.
Am I right on the concept of this, how do I upload to Keymap from IR.exe. Thanks for any help.

If you've read the docs, you would know that KM is a tool to produce an upgrade to put INTO IR, not the reverse. There is no way to extract a built-in device code from the remote's ROM and get it into KM (or RM).
What you CAN do, however, is look through the file section for similar model upgrades and use THOSE in KM and modify as you need.
Or if there are none close enough to what you need, you can learn all of the functions you need from the OEM remotes into your 8910, decode the learned signals in IR and use that info to build your own upgrades from scratch.

Thanks for your help, Capn Trips where did you find these and your telling me that work better then the codes I have?
Also here is an example of ONE button the VCR samsung VHR-9440 has this button that performs two function the button is called:
100/Enter and my remote will not learn this button. So how do I find out the right protcol (if that's what you call it) for the 8910.

I have no idea if they will better for you. Only YOU can test them. I found them in the file section, to which there is a link at the top of this page.
I recommend reading the JP1 for beginners thread/docs (linked in my sig below). Also, I recommend the number 1 code search FAQ, if that's what you're looking for.
If your remote cannot learn the button properly, then maybe you'll find the function in one of the other upgrades - I just randomly selected upgrades for similar components. There are plenty more you can choose from in the file section. That beginner's thread also talks about how to learn signals properly.

Ok so I tried the Panasonic and the code number is 1962 I put it in KM and saved it as a txt file. Then I copy/paste in Green and pasted in device in Ir.exe worked fine then in tab setup I put DVD to code 1962 and then uploaded to my remote and code 1962 not found and changed my DVD code to 0503 not the orignal code 0409.
Man this stuff is not user friendly at all.
I thought I could just take a code that works ok and modify it, remane the code number and load the new code number back to the remote.
and yes I have read and printed the jp1 for beginners.

What part of the readme's/tools is not user-friendly?
For a particular upgrade:
(1) open it in KM
(2) on the setup worksheet: change the remote to YOUR remote
(3) on the buttons worksheet: Assign the functions to the buttons you want
(4) from the setup worksheet: copy and paste (use the radio buttons in KM, not a manual copy) into the appropriate tabs of IR:
(a) the device upgrade on IR's device tab;
(b) the protocol upgrade (if applicable) on IR's protocol tab;
(c) any generated keymoves (if applicable) on IR's keymove tab (note taht usually, any keymoves you create will be imported along with the device upgrade in step (4)(a) above)
(5) on IR's General page: ensure that this upgrade (Device Type and upgrade number) is assigned to the device button you want.
(6) repeat for other devices;
(7) upload from IR to the remote;
(8 ) use the remote.
If it doesn't work, upload any files that are misbehaving to the diagnosis area and post a link to it here.

Just a word of caution with regards to putting out comments like this. All of this software is free and the people who wrote it are the people that are likely to be helping you. If you blame any lack of understanding on your part on the software itself, you will probably offend the authors and they'll probably not bother helping you.Jerry98vert wrote:Man this stuff is not user friendly at all.
Just my 2 cents.

First check the file section to see if someone has already created an upgrade for your particular device. If none exists or if you find a close match but it is lacking certain functions then the next thing you should do is learn the commands that you want from your original remote to the 8910.
Use IR.EXE to download the contents of your remote's EEPROM. Go to the "General" tab and click on the "Download From Remote" button. Choose "File...Save As" and save this configuration so that you can always go back to it if you make a mess of things.
Go to the "Learned Signals" tab. Click on the "Delete All" button.
Go to the General tab. Click on "Upload to Remote". Your remote's learning memory is now empty and will have space for between about 20 and 25 learned signals.
Learn some commands (suggest the obvious ones to start with such as Num keys, Ch+, Ch-, Power etc.) from your original remote and take notes as you go.
In IR, go to the "General" tab again and click on "Donload From Remote". Next go back to the "Learned Signals" tab and you will see thatIR will likely have decoded those learned signals - protocol, device number, subdevice number, button/function codes - and give you all the information you need to create your own upgrade.
Repeat the process in batches (empty memory, learn signals, take note of codes) until you have all the button codes, map those codes to buttons on your 8910 using KM or RM and then copy the created upgrade code to your remote via IR. Before using the upgrade ensure that you have emptied the learning memory again to avoid the remote assigning learned signals to the buttons rather than the upgrade codes.

This has been answered above. You CANNOT DO IT!Jerry98vert wrote:So how do I get a code that works ok in the remote to KM, is there any way to do this, thanks.
(unless if you REALLY insist that this is your only way forward, you buy a second JP1 learning remote, and learn these signals from one to the other, decode them, and manually build the upgrade)
You continue asking the same question, but do NOT indicate if you have done what is being recommended. Have you tried the recommendations provided above?
As it is, your paucity of information makes it very difficult to help for those who may be so inclined.
For example, the TV/0812 code to which you refer in your first post. How did you get it? It is not normally resident in the device code library for the 8910, so you must have an upgrade. Where did it come from?

Thanks for all help, I'm doing this remote thing at work so I have to first upload all the new codes to the remote go home and try the remote's new codes and see if any codes work, so give me some time to see if any new codes works with my stuff.
As for the TV code I called allforone and they over the phone modem'd me that code. If someone wants this code and tells me how to post this code number I would happly do it.
thanks.

Well, that would have been useful information at the beginning here. This was a device UPGRADE they provided to you via the 8910's modem. As such, it was NOT built-in like the other setup codes you used and was perishable data. Did you SAVE the remote's configuation (DOWNLOAD FROM the remote) before you UPLOADED to the remote from IR the first time? If so, then there IS a wy to reverse-engineer this upgrade from IR into KM or RM, ubt if you did not, then that upgrade is gone, and if you really want THAT upgrade (i.e. none of the upgrade in the file sectionprovide you with enough of a starting point), you'll have to get it from OFA again.Jerry98vert wrote:As for the TV code I called allforone and they over the phone modem'd me that code. Really the TV's code is working pretty good outside of learned buttons to change the channel in the PIP and a couple of other things. Thanks for telling me I can modify that one as needed.
The codes/devices I'm having problems with is the DVD/VCR that one is giving me a lot of problems, hence forcing me to buy the JP1 cable.
