Time support for urc-9910

I've been using the urc-9800 for some time now and got used to the time being set when I uploaded to the remote. Using ir 6.15 on a urc-9910 that I just got the time is not set when I upload.
Is setting the time on a 9910 not possible like it was on the 9800?

I'm not familiar with the 9800/8800 series, but were you by any chance using the extender?

To my knowledge, NO remote has its time automatically updated by IR.exe, except when you are uploading an extender IR profile, and then the time updates only if you activate the extender within one minute of the upload.

I know that the 9910 DOES update the time properly when you are using the extender.

I use the following rdf for the 9800 and it says it is an extender but I don't activate anything within 1 minute. The time is there immediately after the ir.exe upload.

HUD0HUD0 (URC-9800_8800_8780 Producer 8 with Extender V2).rdf

It has this entry in it under the GENERAL HEADING.

TimeAddr=$7CA

I remember working with Mark a long time ago on finding this address. I'm just wondering if I have to do it all over again for the 9910.

I don't know anything about addresses, but as I said above. If you use the extender for the 9910, you will have time automatically updated. Otherwise, you will not. Activation within one minute of upload is a minor issue, since one rarely has reason NOT to do so after an upload.

Back in IR 307 for a urc-9800 it was a new feature that it would set the time when you uploaded. Mark got this working.
If it's too detailed to go into I understand, but why is it the 9800 time could be set by IR after an upload and not for a 9910? I don't have the time to understand how to use the extender and hate having to set the time by hand.

Neither remote came with the feature, so someone had to come up with a way to make it happen. With the URC-9800 it was done as a stand alone feature, with the URC-9910 it was done as part of the extender.

I don't know for sure that it's even possible as a stand alone feature for the URC-9910, but if it is, nobody has written it yet.

Understanding the extender is not that difficult. It would probably take no more time than this exchange has occupied so far. And is likely to take FAR less time than it will take for someone to write a standalone routine/subroutine (if it would EVER get written) that would automatically set the time on the 8910/9910/HTPro (all interchangeable as far as IR.exe is concerned).

I'm pretty dumb wrt software and programming and all of that stuff, but after diving into the readme's, the extender turned out to be pretty easy to use, and I find it IMMENSELY useful, with the faster macros, TONS more keymove/macro space and several of the special protocols like L/DKP and ToadTog.

You might want to reconsider.

Why not try the extender? It is, after all, removable if you don't like it. Once you have it installed and running you don't need to use any of the advance features if you don't want to but I'm betting you'll get tempted to at least try LKPs as they're so much better than tons of shifted keys (IMHO anyway).

So to use the extender I follow the instructions to install it.

Do I still use KM to set up most of my buttons and add the devices to IR as I usually do?
Then after that any functionallity that KM could not do I can attempt to do in IR using the extender capabilities?

Correct. Although (I know you don't want to hear this, as it will require learning ANOTHER new - but EXTRAORDINARILY user-friendly - program) I recommend using RM rather than KM, since RM can recognize the extender rdf you are using and allow you to immediately assign functions to "xshifted" buttons and the extra phantom buttons that the extender allows, whereas KM does not - obviating the need to do so in IR.

But stuff like ToadTogs, LKPs, and DSMs must be implemented from within IR - but BOTH KM and RM allow you to create your Pause upgrade in KM or RM.

Use the extender first with KM but then, if you haven't already looked at RM, try it also. You don't really need to "learn" all that much to use RM. You enter the same setup data etc. as per KM but you get a nice picture of your remote with buttons that you can click on to assign functions. When I first started I used KM just because I already had Excel installed and was a bit daunted by the prospect of installing Java etc. but it was actually a piece of cake once I got round to it. I now use RM regularly except for certain special cases.
