Guidelines for selecting New Setup Code and Device Type

Post by bpsherwo »

I created a device upgrade for a Sirius Satellite Radio: Audiovox SIR-PNP3.
https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=2881

I used Device Type = SAT. Setup Code = 1234.

My selection was arbitrary (other than ensuring code 1234 wasn't already a built in code in my remote).

Is there a "standard" way to choose device keys and numbers? Or are there any guidelines?

Thank You,
Brad Sherwood

No hard and fast rules other than the setup code must be no greater than 2047.

A "normal" practice is to use a number that somewhat resembles a built-in code - like if you found TV/0250 works your TV, but you built a "better" version of that, tailored, then you might name it TV/1250 - but there is no real requirement or limitation/restriction, other than the one you point out of not wanting to conflict with a built-in code THAT YOU ARE USING.

If you inadvertently use a code that is built-in to your remote, your upgrade will take precedence over it, so if you're not using that built-in code, you don't really care.
