Newbie question about file types

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

Newbie question about file types

Sorry for the newbie question but I'm a little confused. What's the difference betwen RDF files, RDMU files, and the numerous TXT files that are available in the downloads section? Also, where, when, and why would I use each various type?

If someone could point me to some documentation or a FAQ somewhere that talks about this that would be great.
