Magnavox Receiver

Post by jhow »

Just bought a new OFA 6131nw for better control of my Direct Tivo box and have a few questions.

I have a Magnavox Receiver MX891Pro that the new remote will not control. i have searched the codes and came up blank. My old 6800 still works with it on RCVR/0391. Has this 0391 gone away or been replaced?

If so .. how intensive will JP1 be to get started on the 6131? Far as I can tell all I need is the cable. I could not solder two barns together. Looks like most get by with just sticking the connector in the holes?

Also wanted to say thanks .. I had just about given up on my new I Lo DVD but I ran across a msg on here with the special codes and now I have both remotes working like a charm.

You're not quite that lucky. The 6131's all require that not only the 6-pin header be soldered in, but that the EEPROM be added, also requiring soldering. Search th forums about this, but that's the minimum you'll have to have done to "JP1-ize" you remote.

Yeah, just ran across it in the hardware forum. Guess I'll send the new one to the bedroom - tired of toting the "peanut" from room to room.
Got a call into OFA but probably no luck.
Probably time for a new receiver anyway.
