Need setup code for DVD/VCR combi unit on 8820

Post by heretic »

Can anyone help with the setup code for JVC HR-XVC18BUS DVD/VCR combi unit which I just bought? I tried the recommended DVD 0867 on my URC-8820 remote but it didn't work. Neither did any of the other JVC codes in the manual. Thanks in advance.

The urc-8820 isn't jp1 remote, so this is the place for non-jp1 questions.

Just learn the commands to the 8820, it will learn over a 100 commands, easily 2 or 3 remotes worth.

Oh, dopey me.

However, although not JP1, it is a UEI remote, so should they not be able to provide an upgrade? (I don't know if this is phone-upgradeable, but via mail-in?) Does the owner's manual discuss upgrades?

On searching their web site, I agree that there isn't a single code for JVC DVD/VCR combo but there are codes for separate devices. If you have buttons to spare, why not try a VCR code on one button and DVD on another?

Actually, the Code Search forum is the right place for all code search requests, which is why one of the template questions asks whether the user is a JP1 user or not.

Now, if the user had a question about how to use or program his URC-8820, then yes, this would be the right forum.

As UQ suggests, many combo units are simply two separate components slapped together into a single box.

Almost all of the JVC DVD players use the same code set (JVC protocol, device 239) and that is in setup codes DVD:0558 and DVD:0623; There is one JVC DVR upgrade in the files that uses JVC dev 111, which is found in no "built-in" setup code of which I am aware.

All of the JVC VCR upgrades I have seen use JVC protocol device 67, and the only two setup codes with those parameters are VCR:0067 and DVD:0867 (I roger that this did not work)

It's worth trying to see if your 8820 has either of the other three setup codes above for the DVD and VCR functions, respectively.
