|
|
Hello All,
Newbie here to JP1. I am using a Kameleon 8, a Hovis Ultra JP1 cable/pogo and the software IR_v321b. Here is my problem. I am unable to upload to the kameleon. In experimenting I added some codes(manually) to my kameleon and saved it in a file using IR. Then I reset my kameleon to factory defaults(manually). When I try to upload the experimenting file into the kameleon it seems to have uploaded OK(in IR) but none of the information seems to work in the kameleon. I am certain the cable is fine and I an not getting any errors, it passes the Interface Test in IR. Any ideas why my uploads to kameleon are not working? I must be doing something wrong in IR or somewhere else. I made several downloads and they are fine, just can't upload.
Thanks for taking the time to read my message.

It would probably help to be more specific on what you were doing. What did you change in IR prior to uploading? Was it a device upgrade, key moves, general setup codes, etc?
Have you done a download after an upload to confirm that the uploaded data is in fact there? _________________ Mark |

Upon further investigation it seems my problem might be elsewhere. Here's what I did. I downloaded the factory default setting. Next I changed the Device Button for CBL(SAT/CBL) from 0392 to 0775(my code for dishnet).
Then I Upload the information into the Kameleon. Next I closed IR, and restarted it all zeroed out(no file loaded)...Then I download the information and sure enough the code 0775 is there! But the problem now is that my remote does not control the Satellite although the code is correct. If I enter 0775 manually it works fine. I think I'm going nuts maybe...
Thanks for your reply. |

Now this is getting really weird. Even though IR shows my Sat/Cbl code as 0775, when I manually read the code from the kameleon its showing 0392. |

I would advise doing a 981 reset on the remote and starting over. If the data you are reading back from the EEPROM does not match what the remote says it's using, it sounds like the EEPROM is not being used. _________________ Rob

try rebooting, it may be that IR cached the earlier DL. Closing and reopening usually prevents this, but you may have experience a minor glitch. If the remote manually says 0392, and the supposed 0775 isn't working, I'd believe the blinkback first over IR.

Thanks for the info The Robman. I don't see a reference in my kameleon manual for cod 981 but it did reset it. You won't beleive this BUT I still have the same problem. It seems my uploads are not getting activated in the EEPROM as you mentioned. I found a workaround. After I do the upload if I separate two of the batteries(with my thumbnail where they meet in the middle of the battery case) for about 2-3 seconds and then let them go(The LCD on the front is displayed with ALL the functions showing) my upload works fine! Now thats weird..maybe something is amiss with my kameleon but I'll just have to use it using this workaround. Its not a problem cuz its opened up anyways.
Thanks again gentlemen for sparing me some of your time and expertise. Its appreciated very much.

If I had noticed this thread earlier I would have suggested that. Actually I always suggest pressing a key while the batteries are seperated, since most UEI remotes have so little hibernate current that the voltage won't drop from a few seconds of no batteries. I forget whether the Kameleon has some sort of motion detector. I guess something like that eliminates the need to press a key to consume current while the batteries are out.
The explanation is that the RESET signal in the JP1 cable isn't working. The common failure is that RESET doesn't go to a high enough voltage. But this is a less common failure, which probably indicates that signal isn't connected at all. But whether that disconnect is in your cable or remote or pogo adapter or where, I can't guess. |

Thanks for the info Johnsfine. I am going to troubleshoot the cable and make sure its soldered correctly and do a voltage check on it. I am using a laptop computer and this is why I purchased an Ultra JP1 cable not to have voltage problems but then again, as you mentioned, the problem might be elsewhere. I appreciate your input.

I know you know alot about the Kameleon. While entering Setup Codes(SetupButton_Code) I accidently entered code 997. This code put the kameleon to sleep and awoke about 25 seconds later in setup mode. I thought I entered some discrete OFA code and killed it but it came back to life.

I guess I said that unclearly. It is not a voltage problem. I meant to distinguish your symptom from the usual RESET problem, which is voltage related.
Since it is an Ultra cable, I guess it could be a component bad within the cable. But I think it's more likely that signal is simply disconnected somewhere. I forget which JP1 pin is RESET. I assume there are many sources of that information around here.
RESET should go low while IR.EXE is reading or writing the eeprom and should go high when IR is done (It might be high or low before IR starts). Your symptom is that RESET never goes low.
When you do that voltage check, I assume the ultra cable will be connected to the PC and not to the remote and I expect you can distinguish whether RESET is high vs. floating, which ought to give you a clue where the fault lies. If you try IR.EXE without a remote, I think RESET should go low long enough to measure it with a volt meter before IR gives up. If you can measure that, then the cable is OK and the fault is in the remote or the pogo adapter, but if you can't measure that, I'm not sure what that proves. |

You were right on the money Johnsfine. I opened the Parallel Port hood and discovered the YELLOW wire was broken away from the ic board! No Reset Signal! I found where it broke from(next to the blue wire and also soldered to a leg of the IC leg) and resoldered it. It works like a charm now! No more separating the battery trick.
My deep appreciation to TheRobman, Johnsfine, Mark and Jamesgammel for pointing me in the correct direction! Without your help I would still have been perplexed. Thanks again gentlemen!
