Adding a new remote to KM?

Post by dre »

I've got myself a Gateway Remote, which came with a 23" Gateway LCD TV (already picked up the CA48C480 RDF so IR recognizes it), but how do it 'add' a new remote to KM?

...I'm having a tough time building device upgrades in KM, since this remote isn't one of the ones in KM that I can pick from.

Thanks,

All the remote details are hard-coded within KM and aren't really user definable. Typically, I've only been adding mainstream remotes that have a broad user base.

You might want to give RM a try since it uses the RDF's to obtain the remote details, so as long as you have a valid RDF, RM will recognize it. On that note, the description for the CA48C480 file says "Incomplete starter RDF for the Gateway TV remote" so it's possible that it's not ready for primetime yet.

Thanks, that did it!

I noticed that CA48C480 is just a starter RDF, but I figured I might as well try it -- it would be a shame to let a JP1'able remote go to waste.

Out of curiosity, what would it take to finalize the CA48C480 RDF?

Thanks,

Me putting some effort into it. I actually have a Gateway/Catalyst remote myself and it was me that created the starter RDF, I just never got around to finishing it, but it's on my "to do" list.

Well, the starter RDF seems to work well enough for me.... Thanks for all the time and effort you guys put into JP1 -- I've only been at it for a few days, but I've already 'retired' about half a dozen of my old remotes!
