Alternating keys?

Post by PatrickJ »

Hello everyone!

I have a Yamaha Z2 amplifier which has a seperate 'on' and 'off' button on it's remote. I was now wondering if it would be possible to learn these functions to my OFA remote, download them to IR and create an "alternating function" using KM that alternates beween 'on' and 'off'. That is: you press the power button on the OFA and the amplifier powers up, you press it again and it shuts down.

Thank you! :)

You didn't mention which remote you have, but about the only way to do what you describe is the ToadTog protocol (which isn't available for all remotes, and is best used with an extender). We have Device Toggler and Device Multiplexor protocols (which may have use here), but nothing else to toggle individual commands.

Hi Mark and thank you for the reply! I use a 8811 OFA remote, have no idea if it does support ToadTog or not tough. Is there any list of compatible remotes?

I have a Yamaha DSP-A5 amp which has the seperate on & off buttons on the remote. However, in setting up my OFA URC-8810 I have found that the yamaha does have another code for a power toggle, it just wasn't present on the original remote.

The commands are:

Protocol: NEC1
Device No: 122

Power ON: OBC 29
Power OFF: OBC 30
Power Toggle: OBC 31

These are correct for the other DSP range of amps from Yamaha so hopefully they may work for you as well.

Check out the Yamaha web site here for all of the standard and extended IR codes. Even if they don't list your specific device, you can usually find something close. IIRC, there is a spreadsheet in the files that will help you convert the info Yamaha gives into EFCs, or you can search old messages for help on this.
