What am I doing wrong???

Post by skippy »

Hey everyone.
Just got my jp1 cable today, and have been having problems getting everything to work together. I've had my OFA URC-8910 for a couple of weeks now and have been reading this forum and others for about the same time. I've downloaded and installed all the programs and support files I needed, but I'm still having problems.

I connected the cable to the 8910, fired up ir, set that up, and attempted to load an upgrade for my Hughes HDVR2 Directivo box. After uploading that to the remote, I unplugged and attempted ti use it. It didn't work like it should have. So I connected back up, tried to d/l from remote, and get a no response error message and the remote screen has all the lcds lit up. I reset the remote to factory defaults, but that didnt help. I also purged the memory thru ir, and it tells me there is no rdf for the remote. I'm stuck here. I have no idea what's going on, and no clue where to go from here. Any ideas.

Thanks.

Ok, I think I got that one solved... it hasn't given me the error message the last couple of times i've d/led or u/led.

Now the problem is that the upgrade for the HDVR2 isn't working like I set it up. The keys that I assign in the buttons tab of KM aren't programmed when I u/l the upgrade. Example: I set the F.FWD button as skip ahead and the F.REW button as instant replay. Neither work. When I press them the light at the top of the remote doesn't even blink. It's as if I'm not even pressing the buttons.

Could it be a problem with setting the device type and the device button? ie: The device code is VCR 0618, but I have it assigned to the SAT device button on the remote, since the TIVO functions actually take care of all of the Directv functions anyway. I have VCR selected in everything but the General tab of ir, where I have VCR 0618 assigned to the SAT button. I dunno what I'm screwing up here, but it's getting frustrating. :(

You've done some programming, which means you've created a KM file and an IR file. You've obviously missed a step or made a mistake in your programming efforts and you'd like us to try and figure out what you did wrong. Therefore, we would need to see your KM and IR files, so please zip them together and load them up into the Diagnosis Area folder and then PLEASE post a link to the file here, to save us having to go searching for it.

Thanks for the reply Rob. I'm about ready to give up here, as I'm so frustrated. Now I'm back to the original problem, that being that I can neither u/l or d/l to the remote, and get the no response error message.

Any thoughts on this problem so I can actually get into the remote? I have the KM file saved, but i didn't save anything from IR. And since I can't get IR to interract with the remote, I can't upload that file. Would just the KM file do me any good?

Thanks again

Ok, here are the KM and IR files I've saved. I also put a (simple) macro in thru IR, which did work, so...

I just looked at your files and you didn't copy & paste the protocol code, which is required for the upgrade, over to IR.

That was it. Thanks a ton!! I've read the 'Just how easy is jp1?" doc about 50 times and I have no clue how I missed that. DUH!

Anyone have ideas as to why I intermitently get the no response error? I just had everything going fine, uploaded the corrected info, it worked, tried to connect again and no go.

Thanks again for the help Mark. And Rob too.
