|
|
I’m trying to compare two device codes. I recently bought an RCA RCRP05BR remote. One of the devices I want to control is an Onkyo TX-SR504 A/V receiver.
Both device codes 0135 and 1805 appear to control the basic AVR functions, but I have not tried every possible combination. I’m presuming since there are two codes that there must be some differences. I thought I could compare the EFC codes & see what was different & then determine which device code really controls all the AVR functions.
I found 0135 under Advanced Codes but not 1805. I’ve searched many different ways but cannot find any breakdown for the 1805 code. Either it’s not listed anywhere or I’m searching incorrectly.
Can someone please point me in the right direction.
Thanks |

Audio/0135 is NEC1 dev 210.109
Audio/1805 appears to use an undocumented NEC1/NEC2 combo protocol (actually, I just documented it here).
I would recommend also trying the following setup codes:
Audio/0842 - NEC1 dev 210.108
Audio/1298 - NEC1 combo dev 210 (with multiple sub-device codes) _________________ Rob

Rob,
RMIR 2.02 version 1.5v includes the latest Protocols.ini. That includes an entry for 017E, called (inelegantly) NEC 1or2 Combo. It allows sending 1 device number with up to 4 subdevice numbers, and each function can be sent as NEC1 or NEC2. It does not have support for the fixed6 OBC feature. It is well suited to most Onkyo receivers. |

It was quite complicated to put these together, so I can't go into the details right now. But you can start getting an idea how all this works by downloading and installing Remote Master and opening some of our upgrade files. The one below came from an Onkyo TX-SR507, which I'm hoping is a close match to yours. AVR's are very complicated, so getting the right codes can be a challenge, especially for a novice. Suffice to say I used a combination of the Lookup Tool and Remote Master to get the right setup codes and OBCs for a start. I entered some info by hand, so there is the possibility of a few mistakes.
Use these codes with Audio setup code 1298, not with either of the others you found.

Thanks again to everyone,
I searched in several forums: Code Search, Code Search (Closed), & File Search. I searched for Onkyo, both with & without the model number. I don’t recall using Lookup Tool, but I’ll check it out now.
I’m still feeling my way around all the forums & areas & I apologize for missing some of the features.
Thanks again for your help & patience. |

In the JP1 world, our file section will be your best source of EFCs and the Lookup Tool your best source of setup codes. EFCs are only posted in forums when someone asks. You need both the lookup tool and a file to add codes manually. With a cable, you only need the file since setup codes then become irrelevant. |
