JP1 Remotes

(I initially posted this on the "Beginners" forum without result and thought it might be more appropriate here.)

On trying to run either Rmir or Remote Master, I get a error box titled "Java Virtual Machine Launcher" that states "Could not find the main class. Program will exit."

I'm assuming that I did something wrong while installing, but don't know what or how to fix it!

How do I uninstall and start over? (Or is there some way to fix what's there?)

Running on an old Dell Dimension L800r running Win98 SE.

Any and all help appreciated!!

I didn't answer because I don't know that much about Java, but this was addressed in these two threads. Here are some things to try while we wait for the java guru (Greg) to see this.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

I gather you installed the Java .zip, not the Windows .exe. What version?

I assume you double-clicked Setup.vbs to create the shortcuts for RMIR and Remote Master. Double clicking those shortcuts is generating those error messages?

Right-click on those shortcuts and copy'n'paste the contents of the "Target" and "Start in" fields. I hope those are the right names, haven't look at Win98 SE in a long time.

Also please provide the fully qualified path of the installation folder.

Correct, I installed "RemoteMaster.v2.00.zip"

Again, correct. Setup created a new group in the start menu "Remote Master" and created the icons.

Target:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0\bin\javaw.exe" -jar RemoteMaster.jar -rm

Start In:
C:\JP1-Remote\RemoteMaster.v2.00

I created a new folder "C:\JP1-Remote" with all the zips (Remote Master, Maps and RDF's), then unzipped everything from there creating folders for each.

The folder with RemoteMaster.jar is:
C:\JP1-Remote\RemoteMaster.v2.00

Maps are in:
C:\JP1-Remote\Maps and Images for RM Version 1.31

and RDF's are in:
C:\JP1-Remote\RDFs required for RM-IR and IR - Version 1.32

(Yeah, I know it's ugly and long, but it was the quickest/easiest way.)

There may be other issues, but RM/RMIR requires Java 6 (a.k.a 1.6.?) or later. Upgrade your JRE, re-run setup.vbs and try again.
