Phantom Keys

Post by daveoram »

As these keys are ones which do not physically exist on the remote, is it possible to add extra ones by simply adding them to the RDF file and assigning them an unused hex code.

If the answer is yes, then how would KM reflect this change, or would I have to use RM which uses the RDF files

You can simply add extra phantom keys to the RDF, assuming you have identified some hex codes that don't already mean something else.

KM wouldn't reflect the change. You can define the KeyMoves for the phantoms in IR or RM.

You can also use KM's Key Moves sheet, and enter the hex button code as the Bound Key (and selecting '(upgrade)' as the Bound Device).

Thanks for that info. I had a quick try and it didnt work, but perhaps I used a predefined hex code.

I have a 7562 and having looked, it seems all the phantom keys are $3x, so I will try some keys in that range.

With regards to KM, and additional phantom keys.

Having looked at KM (Buttons2 Sheet) it appears that the columns for each remote just assign the hex codes for each button (also adding the button name before the '=' if a button which is not in the generic layout exists on the remote).

If I were to add further key definitions below those already defined for the additional phantom keys, would this then enable KM to work with my extra phantom keys?

Yes it will work, but you'll have to do it for every new version you download. If (or when) additional phantoms get added to the official RDF, I'll update KM accordingly.

Mark

No need to update it on my account, I was only trying to tweak it for my own use and also try and expand my knowledge of Excel/VB - Didn't get very far as I couldn't find many formulas or VB procedures for all the cells which update when data is changed (there again, you don't want folks messing about with it and continually posting questions asking 'What has happened to my spreadsheet?)

Lovely bit of programming however you have done it though!

FYI, it appears that the available hex button codes in the 7560/7562 are:

$31, $32, $33, $34, $35, $36, $37, $38, $39
