Did you try learning the signals and if so, did the learning process work? Do the learned buttons work? If so, are you saying that IR doesn't recognize what the protocol is? If so, read the following and post your IR file(s):

Yes I can learn all the signals and they all work. But ir.exe can't see any of them because from what I've read it can't download the learned keys of the newer remotes. I saw the post about the diagnostic area but I didn't think the .ir file would have any of the learned codes in it. The only other way I can get any codes is with lirc, but I gather from what I've read those codes can't be easily interpreted if at all. I just got the JP1.X cable a few days ago and was able to find an upgrade I could modify for Olevia 427V, but having no luck with the Envision. Looked at the EN7500 upgrade and a few others for AOC, but none are right for this remote. There are lots of built in codes that will do some of the functions, but I thought it would be easier to start from scratch with all the learned keys, until I found ir.exe wouldn't download them for the 10820 remote. The Robman wrote:Did you try learning the signals and if so, did the learning process work? So at this point I'm not sure what to do. I was just hoping someone knew where there was an upgrade file for this remote that I could use. I've also got the upgrade from the RC-LTL remote I created if someone wants it. But it was easy to make from one of other upgrade fles.

Where did you read that you can't see learned signals in a download from a URC-10820, because that's completely false and should be corrected. Did you actually try to download from your remote, and if so, could you see the learned signals?
But regardless, if you don't post the IR file, we can't help you.

As Rob said, you read wrong.wnewell wrote:But ir.exe can't see any of them because from what I've read it can't download the learned keys
Those learned signals will be the best way to get the info you need for an upgrade.
I don't know why you might have any trouble reading the learned signals tab once you download from your 10820. But if you have any trouble, post your .ir file to the diagnosis area.I saw the post about the diagnostic area
That would also work, and it really isn't very hard. If you feel like posting lirc learns from that TV remote, I can tell you how to get the OBC number from each function line. (But the learned signals tab in ir.exe is easier). The only other way I can get any codes is with lirc, but I gather from what I've read those codes can't be easily interpreted if at all.
RC5 device 0 is a VERY common basic code set for TV's (even more common outside the USA). The OBC numbers for digits and power toggle are the same across most TV's using that basic code set, but advanced functions (menu, pip, etc.) vary a lot, so UEI has many setup codes and they still just cover a fraction of the models. There are lots of built in codes that will do some of the functions,
Even if you had no way to look at learned signals, it isn't too hard to make a few test upgrades using sequential sets of OBC numbers and just try each button to see what it does. Once you know TV/0815 partially works, you know it is RC5 device 0 and you know several of the correct OBC numbers. So at this point I'm not sure what to do.
I read it in many places, most probably here. And after not seeing any data in the learned tab of IR, I assumed it was correct. Now after comparing files I see the learned codes are in the .ir file. But why aren't they displayed in ir.exe? Anyway here's the relevant part.The Robman wrote:Where did you read that you can't see learned signals in a download from a URC-10820, because that's completely false and should be corrected. {IR contents deleted - Rob}
Want this in the diagnostic area too?

Either you don't have the proper RDF for the 10820 or IR can't find it. Did you set the RDF path in IR (File menu, Set Directory, RDF Path, double-click to select the proper path)?wnewell wrote:Now after comparing files I see the learned codes are in the .ir file. I didn't have any problems adding a new device code modified from another upgrade file. And was proceeding to create another upgrade using learned keys. But when the learned keys didn't show up at all under the earned keys tab in ir.exe I was lost. Started reading about how they changed from JP1 to JP1.x and many post saying the learned was stored in a seperate chip and couldn't be read. I see now that they are read and are in the .ir file. Any clues as to why they wouldn't show up in the learned tab of ir.exe? Anyway, I'll copy the ir into the other area.johnsfine wrote: Even if you had no way to look at learned signals, it isn't too hard to make a few test upgrades using sequential sets of OBC numbers and just try each button to see what it does. Banging head. Yep. You hit the nail. I was using 10631063 (URC-10820).rdf, and changed to10631063 (URC-6820_8820_10820).rdf and I now get the learned keys. I don't know where I got the first one, but it oviously doesn't work with all functions.Mark Pierson wrote:Either you don't have the proper RDF for the 10820 or IR can't find it. To others, Don't worry about working on the code search. I think i can take it from here. I'll get back if I have problems with it.
And thanks to everyone.

Please give me a link to any of the places where it's written that IR can't see learned signals from a URC-10820 because as we've said, that is not the case.wnewell wrote:I read it in many places, most probably here. You're actually making us have to do a lot more work to try and help you by not posting your IR file. In order to try and verify your data, I saved the test that you posted as an IR file but IR couldn't read it, then I downloaded the file that you posted (a link would have been nice) but IR couldn't read that either, then I figured out that you had gone to the trouble of opening your IR file in notepad and deleting all the data except the learned signals, so I had to create a valid IR file and then paste the data into the relevant section. It would have been A LOT simpler for both you and us if you'd just done what we asked in the first place and posted a copy of your full IR file in the file section and posted a link to it.
I have replaced your file with a valid file, and here's the link...

Again, I ask you to please post a link to any thread, page, site or anything that makes this claim. We've only had one remote in the history of JP1 that stored the learned signals in a separate chip and in that case it is not possible to see them in IR. That remote was the URC-9800 "Producer 8" which was available in the late 90s.wnewell wrote:Started reading about how they changed from JP1 to JP1.x and many post saying the learned was stored in a seperate chip and couldn't be read.
Here's proof that they are visible in IR:wnewell wrote:Any clues as to why they wouldn't show up in the learned tab of ir.exe? Anyway, I'll copy the ir into the other area.

To Robman.
You don't need to do any work. Replacing my old rdf file with a different one allowed display of the learned codes. I did upload the .ir file to the diagnosic area, but I will delete it next. You can forget, close, or delete this code search. I've already created a new upgrade for the TV. I will upload the ones I create as soon as I've tested them. Hopefully they will save some other soul a lot of searching.
I don't remember where I read about the newer remotes having separate memory chip that wasn't accessible with ir.exe. It was probably an old post and he was probably using the screwed up 10820 rdf file I had gotten somewhere. Don't remember where that was either, but it wasn't from the 128.zip. They both worked. Sorry for all the problems.

Please don't forget to load your new upgrade files. Most people say they will load them when they're 100% complete and typically we never see the files. A much better option is to load them exactly "as is" when they're first completed, then come back up replace them later if you improve them.
Thanks
Thanks
