What do the setup codes do?

I connected my remote to the computer, fired up RMIR, and had a look at what it does.

I can't see a lot. It tells me setup codes, but I can't find a picture of the remote or a list of keys and what they are mapped to. Presumably this is because this isn't information the program can read from the remote.

How do I tell how my remote is programmed? (I suppose I could try all the buttons to see what they do, but I would prefer to have a list) Is this possible to do?

Ideally I think I would like to create an upgrade based on the default. When I click new on the devices tab, this doesn't seem to be possible.

Is there another way to find this data?

I have done some searches, but I am sure there is a lot of information I have overlooked due to not knowing the correct terms to search for, so links to documentation are welcome!

Forget about the built in codes and use device upgrades from our file section. We have all of the above, many versions of each.

Ones to try:
TV https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... e_id=10260
STB https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=9556
DVD https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=6164

Your first assumption is correct, RMIR cannot read the built in stuff, so you won't get pretty pictures or anything for that. However, like Mike said, if you just concentrate on using upgrades that you load yourself, you will get all of that. For upgrades, there is a tab available that has a picture of your remote where you can click on each button to see what it does, or indeed to change what it does.

Thanks that is what I wanted. I haven't made any changes (yet), I will see how I go with those.
