We weren't expecting that DIY was selling old JP1.x cables as JP1.2/3, as we know for certain that the old cables will cause this effect on a JP1.3 remote, so there's no mystery as to why your remote crashed. What is unusual is that it won't reset.
The "Version checksum mismatch" message is new also, Tommy couldn't even find it in the source code.
I'm out of ideas to help you restart your remote.

Okay, so do you suggest I send the cable back and call it a day?

I do suggest that you exchange the remote for a new one from Cox. As for the cable, I expect that it will work now, but obviously I can't guarantee it, so it's up to you whether you want to try using it on the new remote, or return it and get a USB cable from Tommy.

I would not be a big defender of DIY, but they did send me a new cable no charge after mine was eaten by my vacuum cleaner. It works fine...

I got another remote. I girded my loins and tried the modified cable on it and it appears to work.
Here's the results from the JP1xtest program:
jp1xtest version 0.00
**** FOUND A JP1.x COMPATIBLE REMOTE ON COM1! ****
Signature is 30393039
Memory address is $0600
Memory size is $0C00 (3072)
Next to trying to reach the end objective -- modifying my remote programming so it operates my four devices with three buttons.
I'm moving back to the original thread for this next phase of the saga.

Hi,
Sorry, I do not visit this site often. I didn't realize you have problems on the JP1.2/3 cable (wrongly marked).
I_am_jim: please submit a ticket (
www.csbooth.com), or PM me your paypal address, I will send you a full refund and you can keep the cable. Sorry for the problem you are having.
Thanks

For the record, DIY refunded the purchase price of the cable.
