The Robman wrote:Earl, is that Channel Guide a property of the Slingbox as opposed to being a property of your STB?
Yes, it belongs to the Slingplayer program. The channel guide within the STB is still accessible but most people perfer using the Slingplayer's guide because it is much easier to navigate.
The Robman wrote:If so, when you select a channel, the Slingbox would need to send the channel numbers to the STB and, if required, follow them a press of the ENTER button. Which means the Slingbox would act in much the way as what I described earlier for ReplayTV.
Yes. It is actually configured on this screen.

Thanks for the pictures, they are more helpful than you know.
Remember to provide feedback to let us know how the problem was solved and share your upgrades.

Tip: When creating an upgrade, always include ALL functions from the oem remote, even if you never plan on assigning them to a button. Complete function lists makes an upgrade more helpful to others.

But, was it enough to turn on the lightbulb?

Perhaps an LED.

Earlier when Rob was talking about the enter being sent for you, I was thinking WHAT?????? Now with your pictures I get it. I know that you don't have the ability to hold a key down on the sling, and that's a problem with duration. It seems each keypress on a slingbox sends three IR frames, and sometimes thats too many and sometimes that's not enough.

I know that an upgrade bin file won't load if its more than 250bytes.

I know that you guys get letters on the bins to show the type, but I don't get what the significance of the type is on a slingbox.

I'm real curious about the "skins" and the custom remote process. I think sling has become stricter or eliminated custom skins altogether, but I'm not sure.

Basically my interest in the sling is only about how the remote is setup. I'll never have a slingbox. When I'm not at home, I have better TV than when I am at home.

There really isn't much significance to the letter of the setup code in the current version of Slingplayer. The generic remote showed certain button sections in the old version depending on the device type. The new version shows the same generic remote skin regardless of the device type. Therefore the five digit setup code simply has letter representing the first digit instead of a number.

The setup wizard for the Slingbox goes through a few screens to determine the set-top boxes' appropriate device type, manufacturer, and the setup code. Using these three bits of information, it will determine from Sling Media's database if any other files are necessary to download for your configuration. These files can be a realistic SlingRemote skin, updated IR codes, and/or button to command association for the Slingplayer (desktop/phone/tablet/web) client.

A year ago, I had cataloged every realistic SlingRemote skin in this wiki page: http://slingbox.wikia.com/wiki/Skin.toc. As you can see on that page, the remote skins for my setup are the "SA8300" and the "Sony-hxd870". If you click into the the "Sony-hxd870" skin you'll see that it has one association "PVR.Sony.V1128" while the "SA8300" has many more associations. This means in order to display the Sony skin I had to make the exact choices within the setup wizard as shown below.

Since my Sony DXP-CX995V is a dvd jukebox and not an actual PVR, the default IR codes will not work. Alan Richey created the appropriate Remote Master Device Upgrade (PL/RV) bins with the V1128 setup codes for me. By placing those files into the SBAV directory of the Slingplayer program, they took precedence over all other sources and was uploaded into the Slingbox's flash storage. Had I not place files there, the setup program would have checked the Sling Media IR database then instruct the Slingbox to use the default IR codes in lieu of any available updates.

This is somewhat true. In the original Slingplayer 1.0 program the entire application was skinable by using xml and graphic files. Now with the current version of Slingplayer 2.0, only the remote may wear a custom skin. Most the skinning information was taught to us by BrandonC from placeshiftingenthusiasts. That is how Alan Richey was able to create his own custom Slingplayer remote skin: https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12471
