cablebox upgrade completely failed

Post by DragonDan »

I thought I had it licked, until it was time to actually try the upgraded remote. Was for a Scientific Atlanta explorer 3250, code 0477. Did the copy and paste from Devices4, added 7 keys (keymoves, I believe they are called) and with a little help from a fellow JPer got the upgrade into IR (v4.01) and into the OFA 8811. Absolutely nothing worked for the cablebox. I thought the added keys weren't going to be a problem.
I have uploaded the file to Diagnostics.

I did an upgrade for my Panasonic DVD, added a button or two and those worked fine. Can a kind soul take a peek at this buggered upgrade?
Thanks,
Daniel

Did you remember to set the proper device button to CBL/0477 on IR's General tab after uploading the upgrade?

Also, check the Posting Links thread for details on the proper way to specify links to files in the Yahoo JP1 Files area (I've corrected your link above).

Yes, if you mean when you load the upgrade to IR, it brings up a window that says 'would you like to apply this to a device' or something like that.
Pretty much got me stumped.

Edit - thanks for the tip on posting links, will do that in the future.

I took a look at your file and noticed the data you entered for the device codes appears to be wrong. You have:

Device1 = $27, Device2 = 2, Device3 = 32

The default settings are 27 for all 3. Where did you get those values from? Did you learn signals from the OEM remote? If so, what did IR decode them as?

First, thanks for your time. I got the Device ID 27 from IR - a learned button. Put the $ before it from a JP1ers post. the others, I got from KM there is a tab called Protocol help; in there it mentioned that (I think it was a Panasonic code) the oem code #1 is 2 and the oem code #2 is 32. From what you say, that is not correct. I didn't know you can put the D ID in all three places. I am still very new to KM & IR. I will try that today.
The strange thing is I did the same process for my Panasonic DVD, and it worked great!
Thanks again.

The $ is the problem. Without that it should work.

The protocol help is wrong ... HEY MARK ... The Panasonic(old) protocol is NOT part of the family of Panasonic protocols, so it should not be displaying the help for that family. Panasonic(old) is related to the Panasonic brand, not to the Panasonic protocol.

You could put 27 in the other two device fields or leave them blank, but with the EFCs you used it makes no difference. The 2 and 32 aren't correct but they do no harm.

I removed the $ from the Device 1 field and left D2 & D3 blank. That did the trick. The remote acts like it should now. :D
I appreciate you guys' help.
The sad thing is, my setup is pretty straight forward. I got to start with known setup codes! My next project may not be so easy.
Thanks again!
