I've checked and rechecked every thing to get my 2 week old URC 6131 to communicate.

U2, an 8 pin IC, apparently connected to the JP1 is missing (hard to read the traces). Could this be a recent economy measure and the cause of my problem?

U2 is the EEPROM, which the 6131 doesn't come with from the factory. You'll need to add the EEPROM and JP1 connector before you can communicate with it.

Every single URC-6131 that's shipped from the factory has the chip missing, they also have the 6-pin connector missing.

Look for the document that describes how to mod these remotes in the Hardware folder (at Yahoo)

Thanks for the help.

It's kind of obvious with hindsite, but I did quite a bit of research yet missed this. Other than "pads" on and excel sheet very little information to say that IC's also need to be added or folk offering it for sale.

Perhaps it should be noted in FAQ or similar incase others are as stupid as me and fail to translate "pads" into "IC MUST be added".

Don't be so hard on yourself. Highly technical people often make the mistake of assuming a certain thing is "intuitively obvious to the casual observer". Laughing
