Currently, I've solved the problem by using one button to power everything on and one to turn everything off. Then, the device keys set up everything properly for whatever device you want to use.
This isn't bad, but it leaves on devices like the DVD player all the time whether or not you are using it. I'd like to fix that, but the discrete codes I tried (http://www.hifi-remote.com/cgi-bin2/ueic.cgi?TV_0156) didn't work for my tv (Toshiba CT-9952).
So, any ideas where to go from here? Thanks!
How do I deal with toggle only TV power?

ok, looking at the extender I have a couple questions:
1) It has support for 'logical devices' what are those?
2) It has no 'learned signal support'. Does that mean I can't use learned functions anymore? Right now I still use a few, I guess if I can't use learned signals I need to make them part of a device upgrade?

Most remotes actually support more devices than the number of physical device buttons. These additional devices are called logical devices.
You are correct, you will need to convert your learned signals to device upgrades before using an extender. Most extenders use the space originally reserved for learned signals to provide additional space for upgrades and keymoves/macros.
