Searched.. can't find. Does anyone know if there are discreete codes for power off. The standby key turns the unit on and off. The guide key will only turn the unit on. I have it set up as a ToadTog but would like to set it up as discrete codes. (??because it is better??)
Thanks

You do know that standby doesn't really do much of anything? It turns off the video outputs, but that's about it.
Most people don't bother putting a DirecTiVo (or any TiVo for that matter) into Standby.

You can't really turn it off, short of unplugging it, because it has to be able to record things for you anytime. The only (slightly) useful thing standby mode is enable passthrough of the RF input directly to the RF output, in case you've connected an antenna or cable there, but most people don't.

I thought that if you don't put the Directivo in standby, it continues to record the 30 minute 'live TV' buffer on each tuner, thus you incur unnecessary usage and wear on the hard drive. I always put mine in standby (green light off) when not using it.
(I don't know of a discrete code to do this, however).

This is getting off topic, but the general belief is that constant reading and writing to the hard-drive doesn't significantly change the lifespan of the harddrive. Even in standby mode the drive does not get turned off, and it will still record suggestions (if you haven't turned those off) and anything on your todo list, as well as the showcases. My impression is that most users don't use standby. I know I never have, and my DTiVo is at least 3 years old.

Re: Hughes DirectTivo
Lots of digression in this thread about the utility of placing the unit in "Standby" or not, BUT to answer your original question, the workaround in the absence of a discrete "off" is a macro with "guide" (turns it on, or leaves it on), "standby" (will then put it in standby). No ToadTog required.HkyFrk wrote:Searched.. can't find. Does anyone know if there are discreete codes for power off. The standby key turns the unit on and off.
