I still use the JP1 serial cable and dont want to buy a new cable...
what are my options for new, decent JP1 remotes?
I guess gently used like new is ok too.
Couple buttons I could use: pg up/down, internet, return, tools, DVR, etc.
Some color buttons: red green blue yellow, etc.
My dish and new LCD tv have these buttons, and its just tranferring visually to the 2104.

Used is your only option as there are no new JP1 (EEPROM) remotes anymore. Any new remotes now are JP1.3 (Flash) remotes. _________________ Rob

AFAIK, the Atlas OCAP and Radio Shack 15-134 are the only current JP1.3 remotes in the US that meet your requirements, if you didn't mind getting a new cable. Otherwise, xnappo may be able to hook you up with an old JP1 remote like THIS. |

with which I can begin searching for one for sale...
Whats the best jp1.3 remote out there now?
how much for a jp13 cable?
Im not interested in LCD displays... just lots of buttons named usefully. |

HERE's the list. There may be a few more HERE that haven't been put on the list yet.
Don't really know what you mean by "best" as that's pretty subjective. The Atlases seem to be the most well liked, especially the backlit ones. I personally give the edge to the radio shacks because, unlike most of the Atlases, they're learners and are 8 device versus 5. But they lose points for tiny buttons and higher price.
Cables are $18-$30. Tommy Tyler's here in the Market Place forum are the best.
You'll only find one LCD remote anyway (radio shack 15-100) and it requires a hardware mod to work with a cable, although Tommy's upgrade kit makes it much easier. However, of all current JP1.3 remotes, it's the one that's the most similar to your 2104.

Best JP1 remote IMHO was the 15-1994. You can still get them from time to time on ebay. High points: backlight, well spaced keys with good feel. Downside: you will need to define some shift keys to handle newer functions (e.g. color keys). It handles 8 devices, not just the 6 suggested, although at 8 devices the memory gets tight, and forget learning. _________________ DirecTV since 1994 // HR20-700 (1TB) // HR21-700 (1TB) // Samsung PN59D7000 // Denon AVR3808CI // Panasonic DMP-BDT110 // Roku XDS // WD HDLive // RS15-1994 JP1.0 remote // Wired Ethernet // BA Micro90x 5.1 |
