shk, you we need to know what equipment you are trying to control. If we have an upgrade you can make your own WAV with the tools, or someone here could even make you a WAV. But WHAT do you need to control?

He wants to control a Popcorn Hour. I know this cause I pointed him to JP1. But I haven't had time to create a WAV file.

Here's an upgrade: https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=6928

Vicky, can I leave you to create a WAV file from Greg's upgrade? I'm rather busy with protocols at the moment! :) I believe the WAV file generation in IR.exe has worked correctly for the URC-7781 since IR 8.00 but if shk can't load your WAV file, I can test it on my URC-7781.

I did a version of the popcorn hour here. This file includes the RDMU and the WAV file.

Shk if you upload this file, it will add a DVD - 2000 file to your available devices. WARNING, this will overwrite any previous WAV files you have loaded. There will be more work to do to integrate previous wav files and you'd have to post them here so we could incorporate them. However if you don't have anything to preserve, you can upload this WAV file and then assign DVD 2000 to the desired key.

I had never done a WAV file before, although the process sounded rather straight forward. Modify the upgrade in RM, copy it to IR, Select Export to Wav from the Menu, pick upgrade from the menu and go.

In reality this turned out to be a housekeeping drama. I had a bunch of RDF's for stealth remotes in my IR RDF area, which needed to be sorted out so that I only have the right RDF. Then in my RM-RDF's where I only have the official RDF's and Images, I didn't have any. After getting that squared away, I needed to download the IRtoWav stuff so that it wasn't a grayed out option on. After numerous error's "Unable to create Popcorn.WaV" file I had to revert to the README and delete a CLASSPATH variable that Quicktime had added to my machine.

SHK, there were a lot of functions available that I didn't assign to a button. If you don't have the functionality that you want, you can tweak this yourself.

You'll need to download the following tools.

Files Section ->Tools ->Main
IR 8.0x
RM Remote Master
(and while your downloading RM check for the Java)
RDF files Needed for RM and IR 1.28
IRtoWAV

FilesSection ->Tools ->RDF files
1131131 URC-7781 map jpg rdf for IR 8.00

Good Luck

I'm sorry, Vicky. I seem to have landed you with a nightmare. That was not my intention. :oops: I thought you would have the IRtoWAV tool and, being one of the few HCS08 experts, also my RDF for the URC-7781. I recall now that you said somewhere that you didn't know of any HCS08 remotes in the US that were modem-upgradeable so I should have known I was asking you to do something with which you were not familiar.

Grovel grovel :oops: .

No Problem. :lol: Learning something new is very rewarding.

I know it should have been about a 10 minute procedure. It just turned nasty because of my own setup, with the messy dual RDF setup. IR doesn't care what state the RDF is in, so I pull anything down from the RDF section as needed. RM barfs if you have junk in the RDF list, so I keep a pristine set of RDF's and images for RM. I hadn't touched them in so long, I didn't even know where they were :roll: . Now I've got it all sorted out and it needed to be fixed.

SHK, you don't actually need to download everything Vicky said. The WAV file is an entirely standard WAV file and Windows Media Player or any standard music player that accepts WAV files will play it. Just play the file, following the standard instructions for a modem upgrade. The most common source of problems is having the volume too high, so that the remote gets overloaded.

Report here any problems you may have.
