Comcast DVR 3in1 remote - Yamaha receiver

Post by Josh S4 »

Hello everyone,

I have a Yamaha receiver and have programmed my comcast remotes AUX button to control the volume of the receiver. I must remain in the cable mode for all my TV viewing and to be able to use the menus correctly such as the last button, channel control and exit. Every time I want to change the volume I need to select the AUX key and then always go right back to the cable key.

http://www.comcast.com/MediaLibrary/1/2 ... manual.pdf

I have tried every possible combination of volume and channel lock configs. I want to be able to always leave the remote in the cable mode but have it control the AUX volume.

Backround:
I don't have a TV with volume. All I have is the Yamaha receiver for sound because the cable box is sending video directly to a ceiling mounted projector and the audio goes directly to the receiver.

Thanks for any help you could offer.

do you have a JP1.x cable?

Doing this from within IR is very easy. I have no clue how to do this from the remote keypad (since I haven't even tried to do that on a remote for years)

You can try key moving the AUX volume keys to CBL mode.

Press and hold SETUP until the mode key blinks twice.
Enter 9 9 4
Press AUX
Press Vol+
Press CBL
Press Vol+
The mode key should blink twice.

Repeat the above steps for Vol- and Mute.

If the comcast remote directions didn't have this info, where does one go to find this info?

You're already there. The reason I started this site 8 years ago was because of the lack of good info in the manuals that come with these remotes.

Which Yamaha?

Post by rknee »

I wish I had been able to get as far as you have. I have a Yamaha receiver (HTR-6140) with a RAV280 remote. I have NOT been able to get the Comcast remote to recognize the receiver. So, so frustrating.

Any suggestions?

Most, if not all of the Yamaha receivers I've seen in recent years have the same codes. so

(1) Josh S4 has it working with his yamaha, so the code that he is using should work. (I don't know which code he is using) then follow the directions here to make it work when in cable mode. Give that a try

(2) there are lots of Yamaha HTR and RX-V upgrades on the web site so if you have a JP1.x cable, you should give those a try.

(3) if all you want is volume, then you could key in advance codes for volume as keymoves. You can get the values from one of the upgrades and follow the directions in the manual to insert the keymoves from the keypad.

Turns out an extra "3" proves success (30176). Thanks.
