Record and USE ---- IR Signals

Post by rash219 »

Okay i am a bit of a newbie to all this IR stuff...the more i read thru the forum the more interesting it got.....now i have been trying to record some IR signals myself but i have no clue how to do this......i bought 2 things from the RS store near me

1 x Infrared phototransistor T-1-3/4 (276-145)
1 x 38kHz infrared (IR) receiver module (276-640)

and i already had a stripped stereo headphone cable.....the color of the wires were Red / Yellow / Black.

Now here comes all my troubles i tried to capture some IR signals using the module on a audio editing software but i could not any signal i used various wire combination's but still no use......i could have had the settings wrong while recording....

Then i tried using just the IR phototransistor again i had no idea how to connect the headphone cables to the lead, i do know that one of them is an emitter and the other a collector, so i tried a bunch of combinations...i changed the settings on the audio editor to 76000Hz Sample Rate and 32 Bit Sample Format...... the one according to me that looked the best in terms of graph was whn i used the Yellow cable on the Emitter and Red cable on the Collector....... and when i play the sound its like a beep beep sound........so i believe i got it right......

NOW!! my question is what i did till now is it right or wrong.....and how do i go on from here to use the sample obtained on an IR emitter

Plus how do i build an IR emitter that uses the 1/8 jack????

Thanks

hey rob thanks for moving me to the right section I Did read the digitrace file with those instructions it does look fairly easily to builbld but the problem occurs because I use a laptop and I don't have a parallel port on it. That's why I am forced to use a 3.5mm jack to achieve what I need. And tommy I will look forward to what you got for me hopefully it's the right thing since your said to be the hardware guru.....but could you atleast tel me if it uses a 3.5mm jack

Thanks

The latest IR Scope software and IR Widget information will always be at
http://www.compendiumarcana.com/irwidget/

First search result for "IR Widget" on Gooooooogle, Yahoo! and MSN

Using the Tommy's USB IR Widget, IR Scope, and DecodeIR, I've been able to capture the IR codes for my remote. But how do I import the learned signals into IR.exe?

Thanks,

Techtom

You actually don't import the code into remote, you create a device upgrade and perhaps a protocol upgrade. If the signal decoded into a known protocol, you use RM or KM to create a device upgrade, and then you add the device upgrade into IR and assign it to a device key. If the device upgrade uses a protocol that does not exist in your remote, KM or RM will prompt you to add the protocol too.

A device upgrade, is the data that you feed into a protocol to produce the signals you want.

If the signal was not decoded, then you or an expert, needs to decode signal and then write a protocol to reproduce the signal. The tool to do this is Protocol Builder(PB). Then you need to use that protocol in KM or RM and create a device upgrade too. Then you add the device and protocol to IR.

A protocol upgrade, is a small program that takes the data from a device upgrade and formats the signal.

True, but since we moved away from yahoo, he's had just 11 posts, so the forum software doesn't know to bump him up yet.
