Special protocol for FAV button with MCE?

Post by rocketkarl »

1. Device: Dell MCE
2. Type of device: PVR
3. Year: 2008
4. JP1/UEI Remote model: 8910
5. Do you have a JP1 cable? yes
6. Still have original remote? yes
7. Checked the file section? yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? yes
9. Partially working setup code? yes
10. Learning remote question? no

I'm trying to create a special protocol to allow me to use the FAV button on my 8910 with my Dell MCE (protocol 012A). Here are the directions I'm using:

Upgrade protocol 0 = 00 xx (S3C80)
00 00 y1 ## ## 04 6B 0B 56 ## E3 56 00 DF B0 0D
E6 0z hh C6 C4 00 xx F6 ## ## 50 C0 50 C1 8D ##
##
End

Replace the two instances of 'xx' with the original protocol
number as found in the device upgrade (also change the
preceding '00' to '01' if the protocol is greater than FF).

Replace 'y' with the number of fixed parameters (the number
of arguments in the Fixed Data field for the device upgrade)

Replace 'z' with 3+'y' (e.g. for a protocol with 3 fixed
parameters use 6)

Replace 'hh' with the hex command to put on the FAV/SCAN key.

y is clearly 4, and thus z = 3. hh for the button I want is 48 (hex equivalent of OBC 072 = recorded TV). xx I'm not sure of. The original protocol is 012A, so does this need to be combined with the current 012A protocol? Or am I grabbing the wrong number to put here?

Upgrade protocol 0 = 01 2A (S3C80)
00 00 41 76 85 04 6B 0B 56 85 E3 56 00 DF B0 0D
E6 07 48 C6 C4 2A 01 F6 43 38 50 C0 50 C1 8D 23
82
End

Thanks!

What are you trying to use the FAV button for?
What does Dell MCE protocol 012A do?
And what would it do on the FAV key?

You can't use the Fav/Scan Special Protocol with the MCE since it requires a protocol upgrade:
The protocol works ONLY if the original protocol is in ROM and the Setup Code is in EEPROM.

Liz, the 012A protocol is needed to use the MCE device at all. What I want to do is put the "Recorded TV" button on the FAV key, just like I do with the Cable box and the ReplayTV.

Mark, I read that line and thought that might be it. But the Replay protocol I use isn't in EEPROM, and it works with FAV, so I thought perhaps there's a way around that issue?
