Newbie help with jp1 interface troubleshooting

Post by catania62 »

I am new to this, but learning quickly. I have a Olevia TV that no remote will work with, well at least what I have read. So I purchased a JP1 simple cable (parallel) cable from DYI. I am trying to get it to work with a newer style comcast remote, 3dvr with the red select button. They post Olevia codes but don't work, anyhow I get the error message thru the IR that "no response from the remote. Make sure your interface is plugged into JP1 correctly." I read a lot and tried the battery trick and others, no go.
Is this cable I purchased only for the older JP1 remotes? If so, please suggest my next course of action, buy the serial cable- will that work with this remote? or try to find an older jp1 remote to work with this cable?

Also since I have tried the interface, the remote just blinks on the cable button, and will not work at all. Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

You need to read this post. It's rather prominently listed in the Hardware forum.

Your remote is a JP 1.3 remote and will not work with the cable you have.

You need a JP 1.2 cable to work with that remote, or a JP 1 remote to work with your cable.

Thank you for the link. I enjoy learning about interesting topics such as this. I did not realize when I ordered the cable that each computer interface, parallel, serial, usb etc had jp limitiations on the other end. I re ordered the serial cable.
I guess I was too excited about using only one remote for my Olevia TV.

For others: I just received the serial cable and it works fine with the Comcast 1067 remote. I was able to upgrade and get my Olevia 232 TV to work with the comcast remote.
