URC-8811 - Need help with newer devices, please!
I may be in the wrong place, but hopefully someone can help or at least point me in the right direction. I'm using a 8811 (My well-loved Cinema7 died years ago) and cannot get it to really work with some newer additions to our setup. It seems to me I was able to find individual button codes at one point for a non-supported APEX DVD player. By entering these codes one by one, I did not use up the limited memory in the remote by "learning" the IR signal. Even with a master clear, I cannot get the remote to learn certain buttons. Here are the items I'm having problems with:
SCEPTRE X32 LCD TV (uses Sony codes, but will not accept certain buttons like Aspect Ratio)
Philips Upconverting DVD Player 5982 (uses Philips DVD codes but has strange things like Resolution mapped to Pause and will not learn "pause")
Samsung HT-P38 Home Theater (I'm able to get most options to work on this with Samsung DVD codes and learning the rest, but was wondering if there was a catch-all code)
We had a Philips SRU6061 remote lying around that does a slightly better job with these, but still not perfect, and I really liked the 8811 better.
Thank you for any help or suggestions!

I think you are asking for EFC's to do keymoves for your devices.
If you download RemoteMaster and the java support libraries, you can look at various upgrades for similar equipment from the file section here.
It would also help if you could provide the 4digit setup codes that partially work.
You might want to invest in a cable, it sure makes this stuff easier when you can SEE what's going on.

You might want to consider getting a JP1 cable and learning how to use Remote Master and IR, since you will be able to reprogram your remote to work with all those devices better. There are upgrade files that should work for all your devices on this site:
Sceptre TV
Philips DVD 5982
Samsung HT-P38
However, if you don't want to get the cable, you can still use those file to get the EFC numbers for all the functions that are not in the remote by default. You can use those codes as advanced codes to program in the functions. See here for directions.
BTW, what are the setup codes you used to get partial functions for your devices?

The numbers you see in the text files are actually OBC, not EFC, which is what you need to use for advanced codes. You can open those files (and the RMDU files) using Remote Master to get the EFC, but I listed copied them below. Also use DVD/0539 setup code for the Philips DVD player, and as you said you can use TV/0000 for the Sceptre TV. However, there isn't a matching protocol built in for the Samsung HT-P38 built in. You will need to get or make a JP1 cable to upload the protocol in the the remote before using the advanced codes. I had assumed you had already found a setup code that partially worked for the HT-P38 on your remote before, and hadn't checked what's built in to the 8811. Did you find one that the device response to? Otherwise, you may have to just use the learning function to program that device.mephitical wrote:In looking through the files you linked to, the HT-P38 file is not txt but rmdu, and it doesn't seem to have any three-digit codes like the other two files. Do you think I can get in touch with radio shack to get the numeric advanced codes?

Thank you for the additional explanation. I did find a code that works partially with the HT-P38, I just don't have it handy. It was missing a lot of functions though, and was having a hard time learning any. I may ultimately get a new remote after all this since some buttons are sticky; I've been really happy with the OneForAll line in terms of form factor, value and comfort - do you have any recommendations for a current model that's not too expensive?
I'd like to know the setup code you found that partially works.mephitical wrote:Thank you for the additional explanation. The URC-8910 is pretty close to the 8811. You can find a reconditioned on at Overstock.com right now, but they tend to come and go. Amazon also lists some stores that sell it.
URC-8820 is more current and has a lot more built in setup code and more memory. I like it for those reasons, but as far as functionality goes, it's small (which some people might like), with small non-backlit buttons, and a bit flimsy.
I also like the Atlas 5 remote, especially the new one with backlit buttons, but it's a remote that some cable companies give out, and not easy to find (esp. the backlit ones).

Urg, just got back. Turns out I was confusing my 8811 with my crappy Philips SRU6061, which does recognize some of the HT-P38's commands. As far as I know, the 6061 does not support advanced codes. Of course, I can't even find any mention of it on Philips site... I can't get the 8811 to recognize the HT-P38. If I ever did, I don't remember how.
