In the short term - buying a JP1.X cable?

My company has a pressing need to re-program a few keys on four clients' ComCast remotes, which I understand to be a JP1.2 device. I have years of experience with Pronto programming, but am new to the world of JP1/JP1.X, so I spent hours last night and this morning reading through web materials on the subject.

I think I might be stuck at the starting gate, however, because it seems every supplier of JP1.X cables has either been taken out by the weather, is moving shop, is undergoing major changes to their warehouses, or some combination of the three. In the short term, is there a source remaining for a JP1.X serial or USB cable?

Once you have a setup code that works with some or most of the function, you can usually move keys around and even add functions by using keymove function without the JP1.x cable. What are you trying to do, what device are you controlling and what is the setup code you are using?

We intend to overwrite the "A", "B", and "C" keys with "1", "2", and "3" from the IR remote of an Audio Authority AV-561 so that the four clients for whom we have installed this AV Matrix can just use one remote to switch between their two cable boxes and DVD players.

That being said, we can't do any of this without a JP1.X serial or USB cable. Do you know where I can purchase one without waiting for a month while vendors recover from storms, moves, and warehouse issues?

I found building one was faster than ordering it. I bought one from diygadget and had to send it back - it did not work. Now they are closed for a month or so.

I used the "Building a JP1.x Interface (PDF version)" instructions at http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=3585. I had a problem with the transistors, posted the problem, got an answer, then it worked fine.

So someone with a few hours and $10 can build one.

Even WITH a cable, you need to know the signals you are trying to recreate. I did a quick search of our file section and found no upgrades for any Audio Authority equipment/switcher, so you would still need to capture the signals you wish to learn and have them decoded.

If you can do that with a Pronto, and post the resulting Pronto hex strings for those three function here, they can be decoded into JP1-speak, and then we might be able to identify a built-in setup code that might provide the correct device and protocol structure from which to manually create keymoves for the functions you seek, potentially obviating the requirement for a cable.

SO:
Step 1 - Identify the signal you need,
1a:The simplest way (for you right now) is learn them to a Pronto and post the hex strings here, or
1b - the easier (for us but harder for you) way is to get a JP1 learning remote and cable and learn th signals required which will then be decoded into JP1 format

Step 2 - based upon the signal structure,
2a: potentially identify a built-in setup code that provides th required signal structure and manually create keymoves for those functions (we'd walk you through that once the signals are identified), or
2b: create a device upgrade and associated keymoves and upload them via JP1.2 cable to your customer's remotes.

I am not opposed to purchasing a JP1 learning remote, but would have to wait for it to be delivered. In the meantime, I can certainly visit one of my clients with the native Audio Authority remotes, record the IR codes into a Pronto and then post them back here.

That's probably going to be your quickest way to getting the specific signals identified, but I will point out that PLEASE do not post a PCF file, as we do not have tools to decode that. If your Pronto generates CCF files, that's OK, but for just three signals, it's easiest to simply post the actual Pronto hex strings.

These signals use NEC1 64.159, but there's no setup code in any UEI remote that matches that code.

Yeah no setup code matching means you would need a cable to get the remotes controlling that device.

I don't know of any way to order the cable right now. It really shouldn't be too hard to make on yourself and it's probably your best option right now. I'd bet there is at least one person in your company with some electronics experience since it sounds like your company does custom AV work.
