Totally Confused

 I'm all confused with all of these terms. I have the URC-8910, bought the JP cable (which is a parallel one), and have Robs txt file (Name:,Insignia IS-HC040917,,,,v8.37,). So I tried to copy and past it into the IR exe section called
General notes. Not sure what to do with it as it is not an IR file as discussed thru these forums. But when I test the interface, it says "no reponse from interface". The power in the remote works and I plugged the cable in both ways (one way the remote looks fine and the other way I get all crazy characters on the display.

I guess I'm not too bright after spending 2 days reading and buying this stuff. What Am I doing wrong? It seems like you guys got this device licked already but I'm in the dark with the procedure using the .txt file.

HELP?

Hey Zorro, I know how you feel. This is some pretty technical stuff. I was a newbie not so long ago myself. There are a lot of tools here to do whatever you want with your remote.

That no response from the remote thing is because the charge in your remote isn't quite right for talking to the computer.

This is often remedied by putting in, or taking out the batteries, or something as simple as turning the plug the correct way.

If your remote is brand new you might want to leave the batteries in overnight to get the capacitor charged up. I can feel your pain, because I have 24 jp1 remotes and my system is very finicky about the charge in my batteries. Any time I have a brand new remote it won't let me read it until I've had fresh batteries in for a few hours.

Good Luck

He originally hijacked an old thread from a year ago, so I split the posts off to this new thread.
