Hi,

I'm going to push that rule about no question being too stupid...

I have two RCU-810 (only 1 with the pins soldered and pending help from another thread) and a Bell ExpressVu Sat Receiver

This is listed:
TYPE SUB CODE 1994 C7 P8 BRANDS
CBL SAT 0775 Y Y Y Dish Network , Echostar , Expressvu , HTS , JVC

Currently I have the keys I want learned in my remote, but if they are available as a code, I'd rather use that.

When I try to manually enter the code 0775 or 775 as either a Sat code or a Cable code or any other device code, the remote says: INVALID

How do I enter this code?

The RCU810 is an odd beast in that it has an "offset" (for what reason I have no idea) from the standard UEI codes.

CBL/0775 is likely the code you want but it is offset by 17. If I remember correctly the offset is decimal and is added to the standard UEI code, so for example a 0047/TV is an RCA TV but the RCU810 uses 0064.

Thus, the satellite code that you want will be CBL/0775+17 (0792)

give that a whirl, until of course you get your JP1 cable working, then all of this gets much, much easier!

Thats for the offset tip, it worked.
It turned out to be Sat code 0792 (0775+17).
Although some of the buttons weren't programmed with that code, so I still currently (until I get my jp1 cable working) need to use learned codes for some of the features, such as the seacrh (#) button.

I guess those numbers will only be useful once I can get a jp1 cable running.

Although using the JP1 cable will ultimately make your remote programming much easier, you are NOT restricted from using those Advanced Codes (EFCs) simply because you do not have a cable. Just as you can program a Key Move to almost any button by assigning the function of a DIFFERENT button to it, you can also program an EFC directly from a built-in setup code, even if it is NOT pre-assigned to another button in that setup code.

Are you sure?

I recall there are serious flaws with an RCU810 without a JP1 cable. It is much less effective than an ordinary JP1 capable remote without the cable.

But I don't recall specifically what it can't do.

With a JP1 cable (especially with the extender software) an RCU810 is right up with the other best JP1 remotes. But without the cable it is a pretty lame remote.

Well, dopey me!

Reading the RCU810 manual, you are correct that it has no (advertised) Keymover functionality out of the box, although it has pretty well-documented learning and macro capability.

I also noticed that this is one of the few UEIC remotes whose manual tells you how to conduct an MFR reset.

(Most keep this option a deep dark secret)

Never having had one of these, I apologise if I led you astray - I suppose you will indeed have to wait for your cable (although it never hurts to try while you're waiting.)

By the way, there are several Dish Network upgrades in the upgrade area that have all of the known codes (including Discrete on/off) that will work perfectly well on your ExpressVu receiver (which is made by Echostar as well)

You're right that some of the codes in the CBL/0775 aren't there and some of them "aren't right" at least from where I'd like to see the buttons. Once you get your cable working you can either load one of these upgrades or move a few keys around to make the remote perfect.

As for the RCU810, I did like that remote but had to move on when I got my Dish PVR systems (not enough buttons for the skip-fwd, skip-back, live TV, etc) I do miss the backlight on the keys, which is why I'm playing with the Kameleons right now.
