I just purchased a Sony combo dvd/vhs recorder. I am trying to make an upgrade. I have a 15-2117, using km and ir.

The learned signal shows protocol Sony20, device 26 and sub device 250 for most buttons.

There are 2 buttons to change from dvd to vhs which have a different sub device of 11 instead of 250.

How do I tell km to use sub device 11 instead of 250 to change from dvd to vhs?

The discrete efc is 109. dvd is also 109 but sub device is 11. It keeps turning off when I try to change from vhs to dvd. I can see why but I dont know how to tell it to use sub device 11.

Thanks for the help, Doug

Use the Sony combo protocol.

Two options (either may be preferable depending upon how much and what kind of memory you have remaining):

(1) You need to use the Sony Combo (12/15/20) protocol to combine multiple Sony20 subdevices. Select that protocol and you will be able to add up to four Sony20 subdevices on the setup sheet (and select the one you need for a particular function in the byte2 column on your functions sheet.)

Advantages: (a) a single upgrade has the functions you want; (b) no keymove memory used;
Disadvantages: (a) requires a rather large protocol upgrade.

(2) If you're short on upgrade memory, but have enough keymove memory, it may be more efficient to simply build a second Sony20 upgrade using the second subdevice, and keymove in the 2-3 functions.

Advantages: (a) likely to use less upgrade memory;
Disadvantages: (a) requires the use of keymove memory; (b) requires you to build 2 upgrades - not as elegant.

oh, by the way - read the protocol help VERY CAREFULLY as entering the functions is a little bit complex.

Where do you need 5-digit EFCs? Just use OBCs in KM.

I found where there is a conversion for 5 digit efc's. Where do I tell it on the function sheet to say it is device 11 instead of 250?.

in KM's setup sheet, select the Sony Combo (12/15/20) protocol.

On that same sheet, look where there are fields for FOUR subdevice codes. Enter 250 in one of them, and 11 in a second one.

Read the protocol help. I Strongly recommend that you use OBCs rather than 5-digit EFCs.

On the functions sheet, you will enter the OBC in the OBC column. The second byte column will have either:
(1) a 3-digit device number (for a Sony 12 or Sony 15 command, of which you apparently have none); or
(2) a 1-digit selection of Sony20 SUBDEVICE from the preceding page, likely "1" for 250 and "2" for 11, followed by a space and the device code (in this case, always "26") - so byte 2 will be either "1 26" or "2 26" for subdevices 250 and 11, respectively.

Thanks so much. I got it to work. How would I have known that 26 was the default? I thought I would have had to put 26,250 and 11 in the sub device. Does it say someplace or am I just missing it? Found the answer-read protocol help
