Hi there, since there are no stupid questions here I figured this would be the best place to start.
I have recently aquired a Pentax Digital SLR Camera, which has the capability to be remotely operated via an IR remote.
The remote normally sells for +/- $100, I am confident there is a less expensive solution.
I am wondering if anyone can assist me in locating the code information for the Pentax remote, or if there is a way to reverse decode that information from the camera itself?
Any additional information and/or commenst are appreciated.
Thanks so much for the help,
Steve.

There is a section in the Device upgrade file section for cameras. Unfortunately, there seem to be no Pentax upgrades there (yet), so I think you may be out of luck. Presuming you know more about cameras than I do, do you know if Pentax camera bodies are "shared" by any other brand (like Olympus or Minolta)? If so, it's possible that one of the other upgrades in that file section may work for your camera - at least partially - and then one can do a brute force search for additional codes.
There is no way to reverse engineer the codes from the RECEIVER in the camera.
Your best bet (if you have a learning JP1-ready remote and JP1 cable) is to get hold of a Pentax remote in a store, learn the signals right there in the store and bring the JP1 remote home to decode. Barring that, you could buy the Pentax remote, learn all of the signals at home and use that info to build yourself an upgrade, and return the remote before before the "no questions asked" return period expires. (Not that I would ever do such a thing

If buying and returning the remote is an option, that is certainly your best bet. Plus, camera remotes tend to use unusual signals so we would probably need to engineer a new protocol for it too.

A possible code?
I'm in the same boat... but maybe this will help ...
I found a post on another forum where a URC22b-7 (?) was set to use code 556 for a Sony CD player, and the power button tripped the shutter of a Pentax K100D. (so it's emulating a Pentax IR Remote F).
I've looked here for a cross reference to turn this 3 digit code into a modern 4 digit code, but had no success... I'm going to keep looking here ... but maybe the wizards know how to do this better.
FWIW I've tried the search function of my universal remotes (a URC 5600 and a RS 15-2138 8in1) without success yet.

Sony CD players usually use CD/0000, which is a very common code, so why don't you see if that code is in your remote and if it is, see if the POWER button works your camera.
