Creating Device/Protocol codes with RM

Post by keverets »

I've downloaded and tested RM (creating a small device upgrade in order to use a couple of oddball learned functions with my Technics receiver on the 15-2104), but when I did this I created a new device with an unused Setup Code, and then used a couple of KeyMoves to use the new codes. What I would like to do instead is create one complete device for the receiver that includes these codes (they get decoded into a different Device Type/SubType, so I'm not sure if that's even possible), and then do away with the KeyMoves altogether. However, I don't know how to import a fairly complete device into RM ... it only seems to deal with its' own .rmdu files and won't look at the .txt files that contain CSV spreadsheets meant for KM. Is there a way to use these with RM? Is there a better way of creating a complete device in RM?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Recent versions of KM will export a device upgrade in RM format. This is the little square button with rm under it, in between the Save and Undo buttons.

If you don't have KM, then tell us exactly which KM file you want converted, and someone might do it for you.

Note that RM doesn't yet support ALL the protocols that KM does, so it is possible that RM isn't yet ready for you particular device upgrade.

Is it planned to have RM do the import instead of KM doing the export? I don't have KM as I'm running under GNU/Linux only and neither OpenOffice.org nor Gnumeric can open KM successfully (probably the VBA macros and such).

I don't know which KM file just now... will check when I get home.

It is not currently planned. I expect that when RM is finally released for general use, there will be one or more of us involved with the RM effort that will go through and convert many of the KM upgrades.

Does that man every file will be duplicated? a KM and an RM file for the same upgrade? While a good chunk of the yahoo's file area is ate up with diagosis, there isn't very much room left. From what I can tell, there won't be any file storage space here, so somehow, somewhere we'regonna need to come up with about 20 Meg of file space.

Or was the plan to delete KM and all the KM files once converted?

There is no plan. This needs discussion.

RM now has code to import KM upgrades. It hasn't been tested exhaustively, but it is there.
