Is my new 8910 bad?

Is my new 8910 bad?

I have had my second 8811 for some time now and it still works great. I programmed the original a LONG time ago and have pretty much forgotten how I did it. In Bestbuy yesterday I found an openbox 8910 for $24 so I bought it. I thought that I could transfer my programming from my 8811 to the 8910 but now I know I can't from what I've read here. I figured I would program the 8910 but I can't seem to communicate with it using IR.exe. I can communicate fine with the 8811. Should I set anything different in IR to communicate with the 8910? When I check the interface I get "No response from the remote" "Make sure your interface is plugged into JP1 properly" Do you think that the remote is bad? I don't mind returning it except that it's a long drive.
