help with URC 8910 and Lifestyle 28 II

I have been searching through the forum, and have downloaded IR and RDF's. I contacted One For All, and they updated the remote via the phone w/ a Bose code. Still didn't work? I then Successfully hooked up my 8910 with the cable, and IR reads everything correctly. Question: Do I need the 9910 w/ RF Link to control my Bose unit???? Can I make everything work w/ the 8910...HOW?

1. Device: Lifestyle 28 II (new) - uses RF, but does allow me to turn on IR. Still can't get it to work though.

5. JP1 user? Yes, the Cable works and successfully able to connect to 8910.
6. Still have original remote? Yes
7. Checked the file section? Yes, but I'm not sure what I need.
8. Learning remote question? Yes, but not sure how the bose system works. No success trying to "learn" from the original Bose remote. In the setup application in the Bose unit, I can set it for "Teach", but still doesn't work.

Wow - that's not a lot of information. Try the Number 1 Code Search FAQ (linked in my sig below) to at least get us the minimum info to prevent us asking a lot of silly questions.

Am I correct in presuming (guessing?) that the Bose unit has an RF-only remote?

If that is NOT the case (i.e. the Bose remote and unit use IR - with or without RF), then there is no reason you should NOT be able to use your 8910 with the Bose. (Unless it is physically removed from your other components and the location of your 8910 does not permit direct line-of-sight operation of it, in which case the 9910 could help you)

If this remote is indeed an RF-ONLY remote, JP1 cannot help you, as the UEI remotes only generate IR remote control signals. Any UEI remote that has "RF-capability" (like the 9910) only does so to the extent of sending an RF version of the IR code to its own RF/IR Base Station, to be subsequently re-transmitted as an IR signal.

If the Bose unit requires a particular RF signal, there is no universal remote control manufactured that can replicate it.

I have added to the original post. I'm really looking for help from a Bose guy who can help me set the unit to IR. Going into setup on the Bose unit, and changing the remote function to IR (From RF) doesn't work for me????

OK, so your REAL problem is that you are not able to learn the Bose remote signals with the 8910.

I suggest you read the "Correct Learning Procedure" sticky post first.

Then ensure:
(1) New, good batteries in both remotes;
(2) Both remtoes facing each other on a flat surface about 1-2 inches apart;
(3) The button to whihc you are learning on the 8910 is pressed (and released) BEFORE you press the button from the Bose which you are trying to learn;
(4) HOLD the Bose button until the 8910 LCD display says "SUCCESS".

Upload the learned IR file to the diagnostics area if you cannot see the decode information in IR after learning a bunch of buttons.

As for searching the file section - you look for a Bose lifestyle system upgrade, and try it to see if it works. Like THIS ONE.

IIUC, Bose LS systems come with RF-only remotes, but some of the models are programmed to let you use an IR learning remote to control them. Such units would have an IR blaster of some sort that will emit the required IR signals, the idea being that you can make your learning remote capture the signals from it.

I don't know what code OFA loaded over the phone, but have you tried the JP1 upgrade...
