Nope, all updates happen automatically once published to the website.
The only way to avoid the updates is to launch the application offline.
To do that, go to Control Panel -> Java -> Temporary Internet Files -> Settings -> View Applications, find Remote Master and then use the "Launch Offline" button or context menu item.
I took a quick look. I like the update options on the menu very much but that contradicts what you just wrote for Nils. I haven't tried those menu items, perhaps they're for something else?
A bunch of files come in fine with one exception - see https://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload ... le_id=3458
KM imported fine and displays Output. But the rmdu version won't let me into theOutput tab.
Start with the rmdu to replicate what I saw.
I think this once was a problem that you fixed for me. But can't recall the details. External functions or something? That file works btw.
More as time permits. Can't wait to see the IR section.
Edited: Never mind, I think I messed it up. RM seems just fine at this time.

The "Check for Updates" menu item was added a while ago, and would be removed if we make the switch to JWS. It only checks the version of RM itself, and although it allows the user to check for an updated version, it doesn't actually download and install the updates.
The problem with the external functions is not unique to the JWS version of RM, so it should be discussed in its own thread.
Sorry, Greg. I don't think that there's anything wrong on your end. This file is messed up by me at some point, somewhere I'll pull it. Sorry for the false alarm.

I'll have an opportunity this weekend, to use the same laptop which I used in the initial JWS installation. Is that of any interest to you? If yes, do you anticipate any changes that'll require that automatic upgrade to occur?

I can bring it back online if you want to try it out again, but I haven't kept that version in sync. It was just a proof of concept, to prove that it could be done, and to see if it was worthwhile.
Well, it's really up to you, Greg. I think the concept of the package installer has likely been proven, right? And while I don't fancy auto updates, I can try the process if you wish (I don't see feedback other than from Nils). Any old version will do, so long as it is a change from 1.63 (and perhaps change some RDFs) and the package kinda works so you'll know if to blame failure on bad installation. Whatever is useful. Hey, I gotta contribute something besides picking on you and Mark here. I have plenty to do, so it's your call.
BTW, what is the official version of java runtime these days? There's been 1.0.5_05, then _06, then _07, then _06, then _07 disappeared, then everybody I know is confused.

An update of sorts:
For the second time since the first installation I tried JWS. It works well. Both times, when I clicked to check for updates, it informed of new versions available, 1.64 and 1.65, matches the design I believe.
I was surprised to see that even though it takes it from the cache of some sort, RM ran after I deleted all internet temporary files. Makes sense?
Would some cache cleaners break the offline version (CCleaner and similar)?
One issue: the standalone method,rj45 pulled to make sure it's that, is very painful to start. Is there a way to write a cmd file for all those, totally new to me, steps?

JWS has it's own cache where it stores installed JWS applications.
The "Check for Updates" menu item is totally separate from and inconsistent with JWS. I would in fact remove if JWS becomes the primary delivery mechanism for RM. JWS provides it own version update mechanism, which BTW isn't optional.

I'm don't follow. JWS created a "Remote Master" icon on my desktop, which I can double click to launch RM even when I have no internet connectivity (like when I pull the rj45 plug).

Yes. That works fine.
But I was doing the long steps because of this, which I wanted to try and not trigger updating (which I forgot isn't going to be an option
