Purchased this remote years ago and works fine for most functions but can't do everything. Just stumbled across this forum and noticed my remote does have a JP1 interface on it but it has holes instead of the pins. In reading the beginner documentation it just states that more hardware is needed to link it up. Is it as simple as finding a 6 PIN block and soldering it in or is additional hardware needed?
Feedback appreciated...
BTW I see some URC8910's fairly cheap on eBay. Am I better off just buying one of those?

For the RCU-810 mod, read this.
For what it's worth, I'd go with the 8910. It's JP1-ready out of the box, has learning capability, modem downloadable from UEIC, and has a very robust extender, should you eventually choose to go that route to increasing the functionallity of your remote. It seems to be one of the more popular JP1 remotes currently in use.
I don't know much about the RCU-810, but I believe it has all of the above except modem upgradability, so it's probably a toss-up. Is the effort of modifying it worth the $25 or so you'll pay for a 8910.

I assume from the original question that doing the soldering won't be a problem, so I would recommend modifying the RCU810 and yes, it's as simple as soldering in the 6-pin, but use the link that the Capn posted as it gives more details.
The RCU810 is a very well constructed remote and JP1 unlocks alot of missed potential with this remote.
When you buy a JP1 cable from one of the JP1 vendors, the usually come with a spare 6-pin which you can then solder into your RCU810.
