JVC JS-X777 A-V Switcher (from Home Theater Master file?)

Post by Capn Trips »

1. Device: JVC JS-X777
2. Type of device: A-V Switcher
3. Year: 2005-ish?
4. JP1 Remote model: 6131, HTPro, 1994, 2117, 9960
5. JP1 user? Yes
6. Still have original remote? NO
7. Checked the file section? Yes
8. Checked Pronto file section (at R/C)? Yes
9. Partially working setup code? Can't test (yet?)
10. Learning remote question? Yes (Don't have OEM remote - nor prospect for)

I'm contemplating getting one of these (features 8 A/V Inputs, 5 A/V Outputs, 2 Component Video Inputs with Digital Audio, 1 Component Video Output with Digital Audio and 3 i-Link (fire wire) digital video input/output connections), but the seller does not have the OEM remote. File section shows this much more primitive JVC JX-S300 switcher, with 4 input selects and power, and this file at RC is for the exact same component, but is a Home Theater Master file. Do we have any tools for converting, or at least viewing the Home theater Master files in a format that allows conversion to KM/RM data?

Should I make an educated guess that this device would use basically the same protocol/device combination as the one in the file section (JVC:243), and to do a code search using that as my baseline? Or is it likely/possible that the component might use a completely different device number?

I have an MX-850 and when I have more time I might be able to load that mxd file into the MX-850 and decode the signals.

Meanwhile, I did a quick look at the mxd file in a hex dump utility and hand decoded the fist signal. It looks like JVC protocol, device 243, OBC 167.

That km file you found has OBCs 151, 161, 162, 163 and 164. The mxd files looks like it has more than five signals in it. Best guess, the 8 input device is the obvious extension of the 4 input km file you found.

Sorta what I figured.

Confirmation that it's still JVC:243 and a reasonable OBC value is about all I'd need to feel comfortable getting the switcher and subsequently code-searching for the rest, but you're saying the inputs appear to follow a logical progression then in the 161 and above range.

Thanks.

I would bet inputs 1 to 8 are OBC's 161 to 168.

If you get the device and I turn out to be wrong, tell me and I'll do a more complete job of examining that mxd file.

Looking at the OEM remote, there are a few more buttons than just "power" and "inputs" 1 through 8, apparently. (about nine others, as far as I can tell, but not their names)

As there are 5 outputs, and two component inputs in addition to the basic AV inputs, I suppose the code search will have to be a little bit more extensive.

Thanks to our good friends over at UEI, I have the code info for this video selector. The correct setup code is VIDACC/1384, which can be found in the URC-8820 remote.

Here's a KM file version...

COOL! Thanks, Rob. (Although I note that this device is a Power TOAD  ) Oh well, a much smaller code search will ensue

Once you're done messing around with the codes, if you find that some of the codes in my list don't work or do something different, and if you find additional codes, could you post an updated KM file please?

Absolutely. All of this is contingent on me getting the switcher. It's like a $600 unit new, but if I can score it cheap on eBay, I'll of course do all of that.

Well, no joy on the JVC switcher - the price went up WAY too much for me in the end.
Looking at a Yamaha now (in a new thread).
