urc-9800 backlight kaput

I have a URC-9800 that also recent had the backlight fail. Does anyone have a schematic for this unit?

But, what you probably need is a PX13193-H transformer, available for $6 from http://www.hovisdirect.com

I tried that site but it comes up with errors and wont load. Did you save a copy of it somewhere?

Mine went out also. So this is usually the transformer and not an LED that has gone bad?

Models that use the transformer also use an EL (Electro Luminescent) sheet between the button membrane and the PCB to create the backlight instead of LED's.

I saw in another thread someone saying that the EL sheet may have come loose from the transformer. I'll have to check it out under the hood. Thx

What usually happens is one of two things:

1) The EL panel does not make proper contact with the PCB. This happens most often after someone takes the remote apart, but it can also happen if the EL panel shifts position when the remote is dropped, or some foreign matter gets between the contacts.

2) The transformer gets destroyed when it falls off the PCB (due to dropping the remote). On some models, the transformer is not securely attached to the PCB, and it is easy for this to happen. In these cases, some hot glue applied to hold the transformer to the PCB can be a good preventive measure.
