I just got a 6131 remote from The Robman. Is it possible for me to render the remote unusable by sending the wrong upgrades or files to it?
Can whatever I do to it be undone and brought back to its original state?
"Bricking the remote"??

If you try to load an IR file from a different remote into it, IR will warn you that the signatures don't match. At that point you should stop, but even if you did continue, while the remote would be confused and may not operate properly, you won't have done any permanent damage. Re-loading a valid file, or doing a 981 reset will fix it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. In a normal JP1 remote, I don't think the setup key can be assigned a function (even though it's listed in KM and several of the RDF's). Many extenders allow the "shift" function (also served by setup) to be reassigned to another key.MaximusPlank wrote:reassign the setup key
You really can't render it useless. If nothing else, removing the batteries, pressing a button, and reinstalling them usually resets the remote so that a 981 reset can be done to wipe the EEPROM.render the remote useless
