Rob,

What do you see as the future of JP1? At what point will there be no more JP1 remotes? Is there an abundant supply now, and which remotes are presently being manufactured that are compatible. Hopefully JP1.2 will be cracked soon so that all of these questions are moot. I thank you for all of the work that you have done and the work you are doing.

That's a tough question and it's one that we've already been asking. Even though some of the current JP1 remotes have not officially been discontinued, I don't personally think that they're going to be making any more of them. Take the URC-9910 for example, according to OFA this model hasn't been discontinued but they don't have any more units in stock.

I have enough URC-8910 and URC-6131 remotes to keep people supplied in the short term, but obviously if eventually I find that I can't get any more, then I will run out and the JP1 world will be limited to the remotes that are out in the field.

I am confident that the JP1.2 nut will be cracked sooner or later, but I have absolutely no idea when that might be. I have recently tried to stoke the fires a little, both here in the forums and over at UEI, to see if I can get something moving.

UEI promised to write a DLL type routine for us that would allow us to read and write to the upgrade portion of the flash memory, while still protecting the ROM portion, but to date this has not had the priority for it to actually get done. While UEI doesn't officially support or approve of JP1, they do quietly support us and there are a few key players over there that realise that we provide alot of extra value to their remotes, so they don't want to see us dry up and go away.

In the JP1 world a couple of different people have some rough ideas about ways that we might be able to hack into the HCS08 remotes, but to date nobody has had the time or expertise to actually do anything about it.

Great information about JP1!

I have been wandering the same thing. The JP1 remotes seem to be getting hard to come by.

You should consider making this a sticky and updating it as information becomes available.
