Need a little help on shifted functions........
I've checked the archives and haven't been able to piece together the correct solution.
I'm using the RS 2117 with extender/2.
On my CD button I have a Panasonic combo DVD/VCR player device upgrade. Due to the lack of keys on the 2117 I've shited all the DVD commands functions on the upgrade.
Now, what I want to do is to use a one time press of the shift button (P) to lock it to the DVD mode and thereby have it only use the shifted buttons that I've set in the upgrade.
In my current configuration I have to hit (P) every time before hitting any of the DVD buttons (PIP, Freeze, Swap, etc, etc), otherwise it uses the default (VCR) buttons.
From reading several posts onshifted keys I seem to be close but I just can put it all together and get it working correctly.

There is no way to lock the remote in shifted mode, so I think you've gone down the wrong path.
Since you are using the extender, you might be able to take advantage of the ability to select keysets. What you would need to do is make an upgrade just for the VCR on the CD button, and then make a separate upgrade for the DVD and assign it to one of the db-xx devices. Macros on two other buttons could be used to assign keysets to either the CD device or the db-xx device. For example, a macro on the CD button would set them to the VCR device, and a macro on shift-CD (or any other button you like) could set them to the DVD device.
Another alternative (still using two separate upgrades) would be to use the device multiplexer special protocol.

Other ideas:
Assign the common transport keys (FF, REW, PLAY, STOP) for the VCR to the arrow keys on your remote and then use shifted arrows to navigate the DVD menu.
Delve into LKPs, DKPs (if your remote and extender support this) so that, for example, PLAY pressed twice acts as STOP, FF twice acts as NEXT scene etc.
Sacrifice the digit keys and use them for some functions.
Do you have any other devices that would make better button-sharing partners?

Your best bet is to have the VCR and DVD portions as separate device upgrades on separate device buttons - depends how many other devices you have, I suppose.
