I'm setting up 6131's with DTV R15 Setup 1377 and am successful using the Cable/ Sat button but Not the PVR button.
I"ve run into this issue in the past and after grinding away at it somehow found success, but still in the dark about how I fixed it. Currently I'm dealing with the issue again but with a system that is not in my home so I'm trying so find the solution for the next time I visit.
Rob upgrades the remotes with home control and a code that operates a DVR device that I have never used. One curiosity I have had is if either of these were somehow extended.
Another symptom that recurs is not getting to get PVR to work in volume punch through. I usually fix this with key-moves.
I'm not aspiring to using EXTENDERS yet but as an aside, in KM I found I had been using the 6131 Extender remote designation instead of the non extended, out of ignorance really, thinking wrongly that the Upgraded 6131 remotes I buy were already somehow extended, when they were only eeprom upgraded. You can correct my reasoning on this.
Am I OK with the other (successful) 6131s that I have used the EXTENDER designation? Does using the wrong remote designation have something to do with the other PVR key symptoms? (There are a lot of remotes out there on which this mistake was made.
I have read some of the extender documentation now, enough to see that may be more complicated than my needs require (for now). This post is simply to help me steer clear in my future upgrades of problems I may have caused by crossing wrongly into or out of extender territory.
Thanks for any help you may respond with and a special thanks to Rob
Crowe for providing directly and indirectly the 16 or more 6131 I' ve purchased and upgraded for family and friends.

PS. I discovered that my lap top's usb ports go south when it overheats, and has caused considerable misery when working on an upgrade at someones home.

The setup code for the R15 is SAT/1377. In order to assign it to the PVR button, you must first change the device type of the PVR button to SAT. See http://www.hifi-remote.com/manuals/rs-l ... 94#modemap
One of the side effects of changing the device type of a device button is that it breaks volume punch through. So you fix that with 3 keymoves (vol+, vol-, and mute).

Re: 6131 PVR Button Problems
If you want to set up the DTV on the PVR button, when you edit the upgrade in KM or RM, change the device type to "PVR" then when you add it to your IR file, add it as PVR/1377 instead of SAT/1377.Wayne Harropson wrote:I'm setting up 6131's with DTV R15 Setup 1377 and am successful using the Cable/ Sat button but Not the PVR button.
These 2 codes are indeed part of my standard load. The first code is HOME/0167 which is the code for X10 which is missing from this remote. The other is for ReplayTV. I figure that it's much easier to delete codes that you don't need than it is to add codes that you do, so I add these as standard practice. Some people who buy the remote might not even use JP1 with it, so the codes might come in handy. Plus, with a 2k EEPROM, there's more upgrade space in there than you will ever need.Wayne Harropson wrote:Rob upgrades the remotes with home control and a code that operates a DVR device that I have never used. Setup codes cannot be "extended", it's the remote control itself that would be "extended" and no, I don't pre-load the extender into the 6131 remotes that I produce.
Like Greg said, that's a side-effect of changing the device mode of the device button.Wayne Harropson wrote:Another symptom that recurs is not getting to get PVR to work in volume punch through. I usually fix this with key-moves.
The reason why KM has 2 selections for the 6131 is because the keymove format is different between the extended and non-extended remote. Your upgrades will look the same as long as you don't have any embedded keymoves in them. If there are embedded keymoves, which were generated for the extended remote and you're using them in the non-extended remote, they won't work.Wayne Harropson wrote:I'm not aspiring to using EXTENDERS yet but as an aside, in KM I found I had been using the 6131 Extender remote designation instead of the non extended, out of ignorance really, thinking wrongly that the Upgraded 6131 remotes I buy were already somehow extended, when they were only eeprom upgraded. Thanks for your responses. Sorry about the delayed reply. I work with JP1 in spurts and some of the information you reminded me of I probably knew at one time, because other remotes I had trouble with I managed to fix. But with the time I have to dedicate to it when it comes up, it's hard to go back for a refresher each time.
Regarding the misuse of the extended 6131 designation I had a bunch of shifted key moves showing errors that seemed to come from nowhere, maybe because I was using someone Else's upgrade for another remote and didn't delete their key moves in Km before I converted it to my 6131.
The end or this thread may take a while as I may not be dealing with the issue again for a week or so when I go to my Mothers.
But on another subject:
On which line in either KM or IR do I toggle my echo star remotes to remote 1,2, 3,4.
As many times as I have heard of the issue I have never done it and I just bought a 721PVR that responds to my 501PVRs remote, and I need to reprogram every remote in the house to accommodate this receiver in the other position so they don't conflict.
And another issue, Rob, I read somewhere how one of the companies that upgrade these 6131's add more powerful IR capability to them. Frequently these remotes seem to become sluggish when the manufacturers remotes seem fine. Do you add this capability for them? I use those pyramid IR repeaters and have had a bad one of those sending interference that caused a symptom like this but it's not always it's fault.
Thanks again for the help.

Whenever you edit an upgrade in KM or RM, you should always take a look at the Buttons sheet to see if the button layout is to your liking. While you're there you can also see if any of the button assignments will result in a keymove. Now, if you have the un-extended 6131 selected, KM/RM won't create keymoves anyway, so it's not an issue. But if you have the extended 6131 select but you're not really using the extended 6131, you could get keymoves that don't work.Wayne Harropson wrote:Regarding the misuse of the extended 6131 designation I had a bunch of shifted key moves showing errors that seemed to come from nowhere, maybe because I was using someone Else's upgrade for another remote and didn't delete their key moves in Km before I converted it to my 6131.
That's the unit code.Wayne Harropson wrote:On which line in either KM or IR do I toggle my echo star remotes to remote 1,2, 3,4.
Just FYI, I'm the only person that modifies 6131 remotes, so the "company" is me. What you are probably referring to is the fact that I push the IR-LED further out of it's hole to make it's IR beam reach a wider angle.Wayne Harropson wrote:And another issue, Rob, I read somewhere how one of the companies that upgrade these 6131's add more powerful IR capability to them.
