IR question

I have a URC 8060 remote, trying to learn the tools and using the very nice extender.

I have a macro bound to key Phantom 2.
I'd like to assign the DVD Power button to execute the Phantom 2 macro.

Would it be possible to set that up from IR using a key-move perhaps?

(I'm controlling my XBOX using the DVD device buttons. And to power on my XBOX I need to do a STOP+SELECT)

I've set up my remote using RM.

All you need to do is put a macro on the DVD power button calling the phantom2 and it should work.

How do I set the macro to DVD-power only?

If I go Macros->Add, I just get to enter the key, not device type.

I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious.

If you use a regular macro, it will be active in all device modes. To make it just active in DVD mode, you will need a DSM (Device Specific Macro).

You want to use something called a "device specific macro" (DSM).

Without the extender, a DSM is a KeyMove that invokes a macro on another key, usually a phantom.

With the extender, you could do it that way, but you don't need to.

In other words, you don't need to involve Phantom 2, unless you have other reasons for puting the macro on a phantom key.

You can simply create a DSM on the DVD/Power key that executes STOP,SELECT.

If you did have other reasons for involving Phantom2, you could make a DSM on DVD/Power that invokes Phantom.

Ahh I see now what I need to do. I'll do the DSM without the Phantom by entering the hex values directly into the keymove dialog.

To create a DSM use the Spcl Prot Fns (Special Protocol Functions) tab. It makes it very easy to create the DSM without having to enter hex key codes.

Or use the LKP protocol. That way the short press is normal DVD functions and long press runs the macro.

I have all my devices set up that way.
