Upgrade code readout?

Hi! I have a URC-8060.

It has built-in codes matching my TV, VCR, AUD and DVD. The rest I've fixed other ways.

Taking the TV for example, there are a few buttons missing. So I downloaded a few matching device upgrades from this site to use via KM into IR. But none worked as good as the built-in. Would it be possible to export the values from the remote, and get them into KM or IR so one can modify it?

My original TV-remote doesnt seem to work...just tried...as I thought a workaround might have been to use learning. But...it was stone dead...

Are there any other options?

Beeing a noob I might have overlooked something easy, or that is what I hope anyway

have you tried new batteries in the OEM remote?

Since you like the built-in functions best and are only missing a few buttons, then you probably want to create an upgrade.

you start with the setup code you like in KM, and fill-in the missing buttons. Have you found the EFC's for the buttons you're missing in the upgrades you don't like? If so, just copy these over to assignable buttons, or use keymove them.

it seems as there were some oxidation or something in the remote. I just took a knife and scraped a bit (seeing nothing wrong) on the plates where the batteryedges connects. It seems to work now.

So...do I go ahead and use the learning functions to read out all buttons, or what do I do

Sure I can do some trial-and-error with the existing upgrade files too, and pull out those that seem to work. I found a few files that worked partially.

You need to be a LOT more specific if you want informed advice. What does "[not] worked as good as the built-in" mean?

Are there functions missing? Then you supplement with Keymoves or additional functions in the upgrade.

Are the functions on buttons you don't like? Re-map them as you wish within the upgrade.

Do the actual IR signals emanating from the upgraded remote NOT working as effectively as the ones from the built-in setup code? Then your upgrade is not formatted correctly and may be using the wrong protocol.

Without a better description of your actual problem, it's next-to-impossible to provide you with an informed recommendation.

There is no way to "extract" a built-in code from the remote's ROM, although many built-in codes have been replicated in upgrades. If you provide the setup code, one of the experts may be able to point you to a copy of its corresponding upgrade.

As for your OEM remote, your best bet is to try to get it working and learn the signals you want and decode them for inclusion in an upgrade.

I would say that what jeff suggests is as good an approach as any, but it presumes that you have the data for the entire built-in setup code, which may not be the case until you learn all of its buttons.

Okies. I should have been more clear.

There are some functions missing from the built-in. Biggest problem is the function that makes the TV go to setup mode. I couldnt find that one on the upgrades from the forum either.

Testing a few upgrade files from the forum, I found a few that mainly functioned ok. I could turn on the TV and change channels anyway. But I still could not find the setup. Perhaps because it's two keys pressed together.

Anyway, with the original remote working again, I used the learn function, to see if I can find anything useful.

Would that be the right approach?

OK, so the upgrades you tried didn't happen to have the function you are seeking. So this is a "Code Search" question.

You STILL haven't told us what setup code "mainly function[s] OK", but regardless at this point, I recommend you learn a few buttons that you KNOW are in an upgrade, and then learn the functions you WANT.

Just because you press two buttons simultaneously on the OEM remote to get the function sent, doesn't mean that this is a particularly difficult function to decode. It's still a single signal emanating from the OEM remote, and can be easily learned and decoded.

In fact, you could have learned every button on the remote (including the 2-buttons-pushed-simultaneously ones) and had them decoded in the time since this thread began.

P.S. If you want help decyphering the learned signals, then please upload your learned IR file to the diagnosis are of the file section (see link above) and provide a link to the learned IR file in this thread.

For us to be able to give you any info on a built in setup code, we would need to know WHICH built in setup code you are using.

If the device code and protocol used by the learned signal match those used by the built in setup code, then you should be able to use the EFC that IR.exe reports to program a keymove. Or, if you're not using an extender, you could also just leave it as a learned signal.

Hehe I'm not just sitting here waiting for answers...as you seems to think.

I've gotten everything I want into KM now. Learned all buttons and wrote them manually in KM. Thought it would be easier than taking something that just partially work. So all fine now. Except for the two-button push. I'll test some more and come back here if I dont have any luck.

Yup, I found the dual-button code. Each of them sends normaly another code but learning worked fine. Had to redo it once tho. Thanks for helping.

So would I be right in assuming that all the signals that you've learned use the RC-5 protocol with a device code of 0?

This TV code is very similar to the TV/0054 code which is found in US remotes.

Yes, I used RC-5 with device code 0. (0/100/3)
Didnt know about the 054, but thanks anyway.

The one I was missing was:
OBC: 122
Byte2: 1
EFC: 106
Hex: 15

It might have been in one of the ones (054) that I didnt test. Or that I didnt look close enough in the one I tried. But now I got it, so I'm very happy.
