Device key LKP requires 2 executions to set remote properly?
Although a lot of stuff is going on in this upgrade, the germane parts are:
Background - (1) Properly uploaded and activated extender,
(2) LKPs on device buttons (via phantom 3) power up and line up components to view applicable device - also setting up remote for appropriate V, T, P etc, keyset assignments.
Symptom: (1) CBL LKP (on CBL/Phantom 3) when executed the FIRST time, sends the correct signals and equipment lines up properly, but the REMOTE does not set up properly, and I get a "THEA 1808" display on the LCD, and none of the remote's buttons operate what I intended them to. SUBSEQUENT executions of the CBL button Long press place the remote in the desired condition and all works as intended. No other device LKP does this, i.e. they work on the FIRST execution of the LKP.
(2) The same thing happens with the VCR LKP (Long press)
(3) In BOTH cases, this symptom only occurs for the FIRST time I use either of these LKPs after I have executed the "ALL OFF" LKP (Power key, long press).
So to try to further explain: From a condition in which the system is off (remote had "all off" macro sent by long press of Power), regardless what I send in the interim, the first time I use long press of either DVD or VCR, I get correct signals sent and device response, but the remote setup glitches to an undefined state which displays "THEA 1808", from the second press of these LKPs and thereafter, it's fine - switching back and forth between various devices, until I use "all off" again.
I don't even HAVE a device of ANY type with a setup code of 1808 mentioned ANYWHERE in my file!
Any clues or ideas? I thought the extender disables that whole Home Theater thing anyway! And I don't use the Home Theater key for ANYTHING ANYWHERE in either a macro or LKP sequence.

Re: Device key LKP requires 2 executions to set remote prope
Capn,
No answers from me. I wish I knew more. But I see more trouble, and it's persistent. Mind you, I don't have your gear, so watching the LCD is the best I can do.
Here is what I saw using only short presses (phantom 1 job) which is used on both sides of L/DKP keymoves.
1. Home theater/1808 displayed as you said. Is there some old 1808 setup code in this file haunting you
2. DVD sometimes gets locked displaying CBL/1493 (wrong) when last button was CBL, VCR/1060 when previous button was VCR, sometimes may display CBL/1161 (Correct) which then may get dragged into some other device.
3. CD always displays DVD/1091, always wrong. Probably OK in this file since not used?
4. Rcvr/Amp displayed CBL/1161 consistently I think (correct)
4a. Long press check - After Rcvr, Tv button gave me Thea/1808 on Long press. Should not be
5. DVD displays LAST USED DEVICE on the first press (clue to Dev_Cancel issue for me), displays CBL/1161 correctly on the second press
6. CBL displays CBL/1493 always (I may have missed the first shot at it)
7. TV displays Last used device on the first press, but correct CBL/1000 otherwise
8. VCR/1060 seems consistent (correct)
9. When DVD is wrong, next device key may be wrong.
So there. Sorry to see more.
Nothing short than a DEV x DEV matrix test of last and current device will do, with a special entry for the first occurence. Then you might find where the bad spot is. I have a strange feeling it's the SET and Dev_Cancel issue
from the other thread (dmhines et al)
I once saw Nils suggest to push every device key after activating the extender. Don't know why. I never do it on the 8910/HTPro, but on C7 is vital.
I hope this post gets resolved (and we hear the answer) based on this IR file, because it's clean and fairly easy to follow. If not, you've gotta learn from your own posted file
which worked, the one with the HT in it.

unclear to me. VCR is similar. DV (DVD? CD?) is not. Can you explain?Capn Trips wrote:Further, THIS LKP is built identically to the VCR and DV LKPs, but they DO NOT have this behaviour!

Thanks Liz (or is it Beth?),
I had already updated my original post to indicate that the VCR LKP was doing the same thing, and just now noticed that the TV LKP does, as well.
I'm looking for something common in their sequences, and can't find anything apparent. Once each of these device LKPs goes through one iteration following my last "master off", they work fine.
The 1808 thing really baffles me, however, since (AFAIK) this remote has never had an upgrade device with that number, has never had any device with that number assigned to a device key, and seems to be coming out of nowhere!
Time to try sticking in a bunch of DEV-Cancels at the end of each macro and LKP and see if that helps (but I HATE using unnecessary memory space) - eventually, I was gonna use the Custom Mode name protocol on this, but first I want to get it to work properly!

P.S. apart from the THEA 1808 stuff described above, I routinely get the correct device type/setup code displayed at the end of a macro/LKP. (The CD device is the DVD player, without the TV turning on - so that display's OK)

Dev_Cancel commands have had no positive effect on the situation.
Bottom line question:
Where does this "THEA 1808" display come from, and why do I get ONLY the Vol keyset properly assigned with all other keysets UNASSIGNED AT ALL (as opposed to IMPROPERLY ASSIGNED) on completion of these macros/LKP sequences occasionally? It now occasionally manifests itself on the RCVR LKP as well - taking up to 3 iterations to clear

I just realized that the commonality between the effects is it occurs AFTER I execute a ToadTog (the VCR and Cable box are both TOADs, and of course the "All Off" sequence uses BOTH of those TOADs)! And these have Dev-Cancel commands in them. So it looks like after executing an embedded ToadTog in the sequence, the Dev_Cancel in the ToadTogs makes the rest of the button assignments NOT TAKE properly!
Time to test this out!
Edit:
EUREKA!
P.S. but where were the "THEA 1808" LCD displays coming from????????

1. Dump your remote into RM. Perhaps Greg will see it in ROM (most unlikely place). You know it's there, someplace.Capn Trips wrote:but where were the "THEA 1808" LCD displays coming from????????
2. Check the RDF file you used. Perhaps a clue is there (manual tweeks?) but then why would I see it as well?
3. Go for more cocktails
Sorry for not seeing the power toadTogs in your file. With my mindset of not using power on device keys at all, I didn't even read'm carefully. That does explain everything.
Followup questions.
1. On each of the two 8910s I had to upload your files exactly three times. Otherwise the extender wouldn't activate at all. It was in in default state (TV/0047) on the first round after reset, CBL/1000 (TV) on the second and third. Any idea why one upload not sufficient?
2. With your file open in IR, I had difficulty opening a second session with my IR file. The screen was telling me that it couldn't find delcom driver. I don't use delcom drivers and never had that problem before. I didn't think IR remembers such settings. Do you use a USB cable?
3. Something is unfair here.

You are FAR too much into research mode for my sensibilities, Liz. I am from the school of "If it works, don't fix it!" and right now, it works!ElizabethD wrote:1. Dump your remote into RM. To provide a semi-serious answer - I don't think Dev_Cancel is required anywhere near as much as some recent threads may lead folks to believe. I think misbehaviour of key sequences stems from another source, and that discussion of Dev_Cancel is a red herring. I have NEVER used Dev_Cancel in a routine manner, and the first time I did "just to be safe" it led me into the long troubleshooting sequence recounted throughout this thread. So I would suggest, not INTENTIONALLY being patronizing, look ELSEWHERE for your problem - and subsequent solution.ElizabethD wrote:3. Long shot, it's IMPORT, a fairly recent feature to get UEI upgrades in. Perhaps it picks up more than an upgrade. I'd try anythingCapn Trips wrote: HUH? howdoidodat? Into RM!!!!?!?!????!??!???!??!??!![]()
