Multiple functions, one keypress?

This is the JP1 beginners forum. There's no such thing as a stupid question in here, so post away, but this forum is just for JP1 users and people considering JP1, non-JP1 users please use the appropriate forum above!

Multiple functions, one keypress?

Post by jvanhuis »

Can you perform more than one function with a single keypress?

For example: When I press the PVR button, I want the TV to switch to channel 70, and the remote to now control the Tivo. Is this possible?

You haven't told us which remote you are using, but the general answer is yes.

You simulate multiple key presses using a single actual key press by creating a macro. Macros as very powerful.

Many remotes don't allow macros on the device keys. That can be overcome by installing an extender.

Sorry about that. I am currently shopping around for a remote, so I havn't taken the plunge yet. I am pretty much set on getting an old 6131 (mostly for the PVR keys, which will help my wife with the transition). In any case, thanks for the speedy reply.

I have a kinda wierd setup where my Tivo is in the basement, and I have an avcast kit (http://www.crossbarmedia.com/) that broadcasts the Tivo to all my TVs on channel 70. I also have a DVD player that is hooked up in the same manner, and am planning on adding a HTPC in the near future. All of these will be broadcasted on a private channel. Because of this, I need the function buttons on the remote to switch to the proper channel on the TV, as well as switch over the remote's functionality (channel 70 for PVR, 71 for DVD, etc.).

Any advice you guys have would be appreciated.

You can do this with a URC-6131, but it'll have to be one modified for JP1, and will need the extender installed.
