Could it be that the EEPROM data is corrupt?. I read that could prevent the remote from learning or resetting properly. Besides, I found the following in your FAQ:

"When you do a reset it doesn't really remove the data, it just resets the pointers so the data is in effect "invisible" to the remote. You can download a ‘virgin’ memory dump from the files section of the discussion group to upload to your remote if you REALLY want to clear out the EEPROM."

Do you think that cleaning the EEPROM might solve my problem?.

Thanks.

I doubt it, but it won't hurt anything to try. In IR.exe, go to the Advanced menu and select Initialize to $FF. Then do another 981 on the remote and download to see if it all looks OK. Then try learning again.

The reason I say I doubt it is because you're getting 4 blinks after you do a 981, if the remote was having a problem talking to the EEPROM you would get 2 short blinks and 1 long blink.

Rob,

I tried the $FF initialization. As you said, it didn't work either. That's really weird, everything seems to be OK with the remote, except that doesn't learn any new key!.

Does the remote still work to transmit signals?

Also, is the IR LED protruding from the front of the case or has it been pushed in. We know that IR transmission range is affected when the LED is retracted so maybe that's also affecting learning.

Have you tried saving your existing configuration in IR, then do a 9-8-1 reset and then try learning again. When you run out of learning memory it quits learning. It is also possible (but far less likely) that the EEPROM has been corrupted so it thinks learning is full. In either event, the 981 reset will solve the problem.

I think we've reached the limit of how much we can diagnose from a distance. You should either take this remote to a repair shop to see if they can fix it or just buy a new one.

Mark,

I checked that and the IR LED is in the same position as it was when I got the remote and when I was able to use it to learn keys from other remotes.

It is kind of weird as the remote performs well transmitting, downloading and uploading data through the JP1 interface. Is there anything else that can be done with the JP1 cable and IR.exe?.
